Default Final Fight Guy (SNES) question

I'm a bit confused about the US version of this game. It looks like a Blockbuster version was available in 1994 and it had an orange packaging with Guy on it (Image Here). I've seen another packaging on Ebay, the one with only the 'Final Fight Guy' lettering on them (Image Here). Was this last one an official release of the game after the Blockbuster exclusive ?

    Thanks for your help

That second one looks like a bad Photoshop job. If you got this from eBay's product images, it most likely is.

Also, we don't like it when people link to MobyGames' images and not the page itself.

Sorry, I just fixed the link
Do you think the other one is a fake ? I mean, the one with only the lettering is all over the web...

The orange box is the proper box for the game (I picked up a copy at Blockbuster back then and that's the box that came with it...always thought it looked pretty snazzy). Never seen the other one before.

The orange box is the correct box, the second image is just a stock photo. Stock Photo's can often be wrong. Think of all the pre-order boxes you see at gamestop that never match their retail release counterparts.

No, the second box ebay used as a stock photo is real. I 100 percent guarantee it and have seen pictures of one (I know somebody with one, wish I could get it from them....). Both exist. I have pictures saved on my computer of the generic looking one. If you pm me, I will send you a pic of it.

No, that box does exist. There are two different boxes, one that was orange, one that was Black. Good luck finding the black one. I am pretty sure this is one of the very first times it has been documented.

... But this suggests that it DID get a retail release. As far as I knew, it never got a retail release, just a standard Blockbuster one. o_O

I have a manual for Final Fight Guy, and it looks like the black box one... Dunno if this helps at all...

Both boxes are real. The orange one was available at Blockbuster but I don't know were the black one was available. I also know someone with a sealed black box version of this game and it's probably the same person that raregamergirl is talking about.

Edit: DreamTR has the picture that im talking about. maximus-clean got it from Nintendo storage. Maybe it could be a non-U.S. version?

Does this mean the black box variant is possibly the one true SNES retail holy grail?

(By holy grail I mean the rarest of the rare.)

well I stand corrected, anyone got any license numbers off the black box. maybe it's got a -1 or something. I've never seen it before the previous pic, I wondering if maybe it was distributed in Canada or something. I know for example that Freestyle Soccer for GC was US blockbuster exclusive, but was distributed in Canada without the blockbuster logo on the case. Maybe something like that happend with FFG.

    That was my initial thought

That clearly doesn't look like a one-off or promo version. It even has the special seal on the back wrap.

The back of that box says "For Sale in the USA Canada and Mexico only".

Wonder if it was sold in South America, like International Superstar Soccer?

Well, ISS was Central America, as was ISS Deluxe, and Super Copa (TOny Meola), but this black box variant is really only that, the box being different. The game and manual would be the same thing. My guess is since that's internal Nintendo we really won't know because no one even know of its existence until it was pulled out of Nintendo storage. It might have been one of the promo production boxes, then Blockbuster got an exclusive on it instead due to lack of pre-sales, but really hard to describe. It was not sold in stores.

Thanks a lot for all your replies. I too was surprised about the black box, I've only seen the orange packaging with Guy on it - interestingly, the cartridge from that orange version (If I remember well) has a black label.
I've never seen the 'black box' opened and I wonder if it has the same serial number, and if the cartridge looks the same...

This is the first I've seen of the black box. I only knew and remembered the orange one. If I had known FFG would be sought after later on, I would've bought it when I had the chance. C'est la vie.

This is not related to the discussion but I have a question pertaining to the picture that DreamTR linked to.

Is the game SOS rare or something? Any more info on the game? Never heard of the game but since it's with the other super duper rare games, I assume it must be rare to be in the picture.

Many thanks from the super nintendo noob

That was actually a picture I requested from the owner. I purchased quite a few games from him and he just grouped the games I asked for pictures of however (he put 4 games per picture).

No method to the madness. The SOS is nothing special. Not common sealed or anything, but not rare by any means. Worth under $100. Just happenned to be grouped with those three titles.
