Default I cant believe it...The Hyperscan lives on! Review added

Well, it is not on their website, nor do I expect it. For the 5 people in the world who collect this truly horrible system....add another one to its list. It looks like Spiderman for the Hyperscan has been released in very limited quanities. I saw some on ebay, and ordered one for myself. I will play this sucker and give my reivew of it. All I can say is that the near impossible has happened. This system came out and disappeared within 3 months of its release. Only Toys R Us gave it some legs, with Marvel Heroes coming out in limited quantities. Now, after being one step from the retail grave...another game! Check your local Toys R US stores for this one, for it truly will probably at least become uncommon. Heads up collectors.

A big special thanks to Rick Weis for pointing this out to me.

REVIEW of the Spiderman Game in short:

Like so many other Hyperscan games, the game has serious load times. Upon surviving the load screen and Spider Man 3 stills, you then scan a character card. You then get to choose what mission you want to do. You and your midget sized pixeliated spiderman can then choose a level. At this point, you can them scan additional powers.

Graphics: 4 out 10 Game Boy Advance, 2D with jaggies.

Sound: 7 out of 10 Not bad, typical looping music probably lifted from Spider man 3. Voice overs are cheezy, but they work with the game.

Gameplay: 4 out of 10 Punch, Kick, Special Moves...If you have the cards. A Basic Brawler without much as in depth

Fun Factor: 1 out 10 I really like to play games, and really hate when the game I bought is nerfed due to not having all the moves

Collectors Note: You will get one of two promo cards with the game(The Toys R US bonus cards). This means that someone has to buy at least two copies of the game to get both promo cards. On top of already having to track down the evil to find booster paks, now you have to buy the game twice Sheesh

That is quite shocking considering everyplace in my area that sells the hyperscan stuff has had it on clearance for some time now.

Damn. Wish someone would have one without the system. I'll check my store and see if we got them, though I can't imagine we would.

This may be a real oddity in a few years. Nothing on TRU.com, nothing on the Hyperscan website either:

    http://www.hyperscangamer.com/

The e-mail link is just to sign up for a newsletter, and Mattel's website has the hardware discontinued this year. Hmm.

I have only heard of Spider Man being available at Toys R Us on the retail level, the package says a 7th card (instead of just 6) is included as a TRU exclusive. Could be avaialble at Target as well.

Semi Logic's branch in Belarus supplied graphics for most of the software and Spider Man assets can be seen in the link above.

I spoke with the PR director at Mattel when the hyper-scan came out, she refused to comment on it at all and said they wouldn't be sending out review copies of the console/games. That seemed like a bad sign...

No joke.. everyone at Mattel I spoke with this past year didn't know a thing about it (or just didn't care.)

The local Goodwills used to be littered with Hyperscan stuff, but they're long gone. That being said, I'm surprised to hear about a new release.

If you're collecting Hyperscan stuff, the time when you can get a collection going without having to get everything online is just about gone (at least around here).

I must have missed this, as no one ever posted a review of the system here. In case you're curious about how these games actually play, here's a thread over at AA with peoples' impressions of the system.

Lord Thag is a good friend of mine. I actually got his Hyperscan Unit. It goes well next to my Action Max game system and Game.com collection.

After personally playing the thing, Lord Thag nailed it. While the Hyperscan could have possibly been OK, they screwed it up pretty good.

Marel Heroes just came out a little earlier this year. I've been seeing more and more of Spider-man 3. I'm still hoping to see the Red Series for X-Men that they've been promising. Hyperscans website never tells you anything that you didn't already know and they're always behind. I've subscribed to there emails, haven't gotten anything and wonder when they're going to start saying stuff about Spider-man 3.
