I'm thinking about picking one up. Any difference between the 2?

Somebody needs to buy a Digital Press Collector's Guide.
[EDIT: CORRECTED price/rarity]
Console, CoreGrafx (Turbografx-16, by NEC) $50/R5
For all intents and purposes, this is identical to the PC Engine, but uses a video cable identical to the Duo (RF was available with a special adapter). Released 12/89. #PI-TG3.
Console, CoreGrafx II (Turbografx-16, by NEC) $65/R6
Identical to the PC-Engine CoreGrafx, was released at a lower price and color-coordinated to match the new Super CD-ROM expansion module. Released in Japan only. Released 06/91. #PI-TG7.
That price can't be right. I've seen a number of complete Coregrafx go for $30-$50 on eBay. Or is the box and manual worth $100 by itself?![]()

Boxes are fairly rare, but a coregrafx system in japan, complete, with a game or two, is usually around $20-30. I guess if you were going by how hard they are to find in the wild domestically, they could be that much, but even a boxed one isn't really worth more than $50.

yes, I do need to grab the guide. Prolly will this weekend.
Are all CoreGrafx and Coregrafx II's compatible with US tv's and power? I had one guy selling a CoreGrafx II from Austrailia tell me I would need a converter to run on 110 power.
I had the original white PC Engine from Japan, and that worked fine with our power and tv sets, except instead of channel 3 for the rf output, it used some high number like 96 or something.Originally Posted by stargate
Corrected pricing and rarity above. It wasn't ALWAYS this way, at least for collectors in the US. The hardware list has gone through a number of hands over the years (though none recently) and it had been agreed that CoreGrafx was tough to find. It's not that hard to find any more.
Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah..that's more accurate. And you're right DP, PCE stuff has dropped CONSIDERABLY over the last few years. Much more affordable now.

If you're going to use Coregrafx AV ports, you won't need to worry about getting the right channel. Only getting color to show up if you have PAL TV as I don't think there's ever a PAL version of Coregrafx. As for the powerr, you could use a generic power supply from Rat Shack that has the correct voltage and polarity and can provide the current equal or more than Coregrafx's requirement. It's probably cheaper than a 220v to 110v stepdown transformer.
Coregrafx will play all PCE games and with a switch mod, play all US HuCard games as well. Considering how small the Coregrafx is, that might have been great console to use in place of TG-16 except the CD ROM add on's huge so if you already have TG-16 and CD-ROM setup, you should get the Coregrafx only to play PCE games.
