    Default Ultimate X-box 360!

"Not content with the Core, Premium, and Elite models, Microsoft is apparently preparing the autumnal introduction of its Ultimate edition, a 320GB behemoth that comes equipped with 1080p HDMI, onboard Wi-Fi connectivity, HD audio output, cool-running 65nm hardware, and an almost imperceptible ventilation fan.

Furthermore, it will also be able to take advantage of the Xbox IPTV service, which is expected to be in full flow well before the end of the year. And, if you’re presently wondering whether the Ultimate will offer enough oomph to crush the PlayStation 3 beneath Microsoft’s stomping corporate boots, then you should also factor in that the new console will come armed with a built-in HD-DVD player too.

Presently, there is no price accompanying this particular rumour. That being said, however, if Microsoft intends to use the Ultimate to pull prospective consumers away from the Blu-ray-equipped PS3, then it needs to release it close to the current price tagged onto Sony’s top-tier 80GB model – $599 USD.

Presently, the top-tier Xbox 360 Elite, which offers 120GB of storage and an HMDI port, but is without a HD-DVD player, retails for $479 USD, which leaves Microsoft with a margin of $120 USD to play with when it prices the Ultimate if it wants to undercut the 80GB PS3. "

Sweet, another unconfirmed rumor based on pure speculation!

With an original source like Stuff, how can you go wrong?

I'll be interested if they start putting games on HD-DVD, but other then that no interest.

Some guy at some forum (Proelite from Neogaf to be more exact) said that his one of the employees at his local Gamestop told him that they are getting a new SKU, and essentially what is happening (with the HDMI being added to the Premium systems and the HD-DVD drive prices dropping) is the Elite’s feature, minus color, are being dropped down to the Premium systems, and then there is a new SKU for a system that is basically an Elite (don’t know which color) with an integrated HD-DVD drive.

...except for the fact that the 80 gig PS3 isn't $599, it's $499. Don't these online guys run their articles past an editor?

What, and risk not being the first to post a completely unsubstantiated rumor on the internet? Pass up all of those potential diggs?

Rumor or not, if this is true, I may finally jump in and buy a 360. It sounds like a really nice setup, they had me at built in wifi.

    ...no pun intended.

Despite the fact that this sounds made up, it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft was readying another SKU that was aimed at home theater folks. That would be reasonable enough to assume.

That being said, I don't know how many people would pay $600 for one, when you can grab a PS3 for $500. I would do it [knowing what I know about the 360], but the general public will flock to the cheaper system. If Microsoft could keep all these features at $480 (possible, given how HD-DVD drives are dropping in price), then the 360 would be a truly viable alternative to an HTPC.

Sonuva....... I just bought a 360 Elite and now Microsoft is going to(possibly) make a NEW Xbox 360 again?

    *sighs*

I guess I'll have to return the Elite and wait for this new one to come out.

    I sure hope it's true.

these guys charge you an extra $100 for 20 gigs if this thing is sporting a 320GB hard drive id expect them to charge MORE than the top-o-the-line ps3. the price tag may just say bend over and take it biatch.
For lucky best wash, use Mr. Sparkle.

when my 360 dies (its inevitable) I will buy one of these (even though my tv is only 1080i) the HDMI and wifi will be nice upgrades and HD DVD too! Hopefully I can wait a year or two though till I've paid for the tv!

Never going to happen with the Xbox 360, there's 18 million 360's out there that couldn't play those games. Why would you care anyways?

An Ultimate Xbox 360 could indeed come out, the HDMI and Elite rumors were true.

I think Microsoft needs to figure out how to make the 360's that currently exist function properly before they start cranking out new models...sheesh.

Warner Bros. just went exclusively Blu-Ray (Warner Bros. has the biggest chunk of home video sales/movies).

They're saying the war is now over.

Microsoft's plan for going HD-DVD was for both formats to fail (so it will be down to dlc video)

Maybe this "new" SKU will be pretty cheap if it comes out.

Oh wow, who would have thought that a rumor started by Stuff magazine and linked throughout the web as factual news would pan out to be complete bullshit? Color me surprised!

"We have reiterated multiple times since launching the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player that we have no plans to integrate an HD DVD player in to the Xbox 360," a spokesman told GameSpot. "We feel that offering the drive externally is the best way to give consumers the ultimate choice to create their own high-definition experiences."
