Default What GameCube Controllers Work on Wii?

I'm anticipating the rush of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I've had some customers tell me that certain 3rd party controllers do NOT work on their Wii, and I've also sold some to Wii owners and never heard back so I'm trying to get a grasp of what I should keep in stock.

I know WaveBirds and first party wired Nintendo controllers work.

If you've tried anything else and it either did or didn't work, post here please!

All of them should work, it's just a matter of what the game is actually going to support. It's a shame that more games don't fully support all controllers like Nights did (especially when the Gamecube controller is an obviously superior control choice for the games). Since SSBM is going to support the Gamecube controller, you should expect any and all of them to work.

Wavebirds are going to be the money, though. I'll probably pick up one or two more this weekend just to be on the safe side. I feel bad for the people stuck playing the game with the Wiimote+Nunchuck.

Can you actually fit four Wavebird receivers in ports 1-4 on the Wi simultaneously?

The Wavebird is the best, but I know that the receivers were pretty big, did Nintendo make for enough space between the controller ports on the Wii to accomodate? Do they stick out past the bottom of the Wii?

Personally, when I need to, I use a Gamestop branded small sized 2.4GHz wireless Gamecube controller, and it works perfectly, and it comes with a reciever that has a cord, so it doesn't cramp the space on the other ports, and it doesn't extend beyond the bottom of the stystem when the system is placed horizontally.

Exactly. Especially considering that jumping is mapped to "up" on the "+" pad of the Wiimote. Yuck. Wavebirds/Gamecube controllers are going to be the only way to play this game effectively. The hands-on reports from CES confirm the Wiimote + nunchuck is definitely an acquired taste.

I'm actually surprised no third party has come forward with a wireless Cube controller with a "Wii" design makeover; much like the wavebird, but white with those clear buttons.

To be honest I think it's horrible that games are supporting the Gamecube controller. It sets a precedent that flies in the face of what the Wii is about: Motion controls and simplicity.

They fit perfectly. My wife and I have two connected right now. The bottom lines up precisely with the bottom edge of the Wii, and the top sticks up about a quarter inch. The controller ports are the same distance apart as on the Gamecube, so they sit snugly side-by-side.

Neither of which should be forced on all players in every game. People should have a choice, otherwise you'll be forcing players to play with something that may damn well be counter-intuitive, which to me is exactly the opposite of what the Wii is "supposed" to be about (intuitiveness).

I should've kept my old Wavebird, but I sold it about a year ago. Last week, I bought a used one from someone on Half.com for $35 in perfect condition.

I'm still trying to find a decently priced wavebird.

Anyone know if the hori digital pad thing works? I wonder if I could use that to play VC games...I'll try it later.

Yeah the hori digital controll pad does work for vc games.

I been, trying to find another one for 2p but now it seems the controller is hard to come by

There either it's priced too high or some thing else.

I wish i could find another one for a good price.

I'm not aware of any myself.. I have two third party controllers.. one a Nyko Wireless that's a piece of... and a random nameless one that has a retractable cord. It's odd and my best and most durable.

    Both work with the Wii.

What is considered a decent price?
