Default Need help converting NES controller to arcade stick

I need some help with a project I am working on. Wondering if anyone knows how I would go about doing this. I have an old Donkey Kong Cabinet that I stripped and am popping a tv in to play nes games on it, and I'm trying to figure out how to hard wire a nes controller onto the arcade controller. I figured a NES advantage joystick would work, but im not quite sure. Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

You're using a NES inside an arcade cabinet with a NES controller...why would you have to convert anything?

I want to take the NES controller and connect it to the controls of the cabinet, so i need to hook the controller buttons and directional pad onto the cabinet original joystick and buttons.

You just answered your own question but flip around what you said. You need to the arcade buttons and joystick onto the NES pad controls. Open an NES controller up and you'll see how pressing a button makes the controller work. Remove the coating over the leads for the buttons and solder your connections in.

Here it is with the wires soldered on:

Here it is with the DB25 connector I put on to match the pinouts of my Arcade Stick:
