    Default Curved Picture on SNES

    Hopefully someone knows the problem with this. I use my Super Famicom via Scart (RGB) and I am using a Scart to YUV converter. I am using a RCA 14" 14F514T (from Wal Mart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5633688) and I get a curved/bent picture. I have accessed service mode and I have tried to straighten out the image, but at best there is still a curve. Has anyone else had this problem using a Scart to YUV converter? I am wondering if it is the TV or RCA itself. I may switch to a Phillips TV instead. Any response appreciated.

    Thanks.

    What's the name of that circuit, APL? My HDTV has a weak one and always has curves that bright lights affect, etc.

    Default Converter

    Here is the converter that I am using:
    http://www.converters.tv/products/rgb_to_secam/46.html

    I am not sure how to find out the circuitry to see what type of APL it has.

    YUV isn't the same as YCrCb/YPrPb. That might be part of the reason:

    RGB to YUV:
    Y = 0.299R + 0.587G + 0.114B
    U = -0.299R - 0.587G + 0.886B
    V = 0.701R – 0.587G – 0.114B

    RGB to YCrCb/YPrPb
    Y = 0.299R + 0.587G + 0.114B
    Cr = 0.5R – 0.418G – 0.082B
    Cb = -0.169R - 0.331G + 0.5B

    Default No Solution

    I guess there is no solution to this problem or do other converters do a better job?

    Btw, the APL circuit is in your TV. That's if I even got the danged term right.

    If you want Component video, I'd suggest the JROK one. It works great with my Genesis. Thing is, SNES has S-Video out, so why bother?

    Default Semi-solution

    Well it looks like I have a semi solution. I had to open up the Scart to YUV converter and change the POT settings (I think I used the correct term) and I noticed that if I turn down the red then there is less of a curvature. After I am done with messing with some of the settings I get slight curve but it isn't as bad had I not messed with it. Hopefully this will help others that use the Scart to YUV Converter. If someone else has another solution or input, it would be great. At least this is as close as I can get to true RGB/Scart without importing a TV from the UK or buying a RGB monitor and trying to find all those custom cables.

    evildragon,

    You're saying it works great with the Jrok RGB to Component output but in your other thread you mention that it looks like crap.. So which is it? Is it worth getting the jrok converter for these consoles? I have Snes, MD2, TURBO DUO (rgb pull) and planning to use the converter with a Sony WEGA KV-36XBR800 HDTV tube. I was going to buy this ATLONA SCART RGB TO COMPONENT YUV converter. No so sure about it now...

    Let me know if its worth it. I never liked the emulator dithering look.

    Thanks
