Default Comprehensive list of Sat. AM Videogame Cartoons

    Hey gang,

While looking over my videogame cartoon cel collection, I was trying to come up with game 'toons I don't have cels for. I tried to make a list of them all, but I was having some problems as I think I'm missing quite a few.

I have cels for the following Saturday morning cartoon series:
    Dragon's Lair
    Pac-Man
    Sonic the Hedgehog
    Earthworm Jim
Saturday Supercade (specifically Q*Bert, Donkey Kong Jr., Space Ace, and Frogger)
    Captain N the Gamemaster
    The Legend of Zelda
Mario from Donkey Kong cereal ad (to stretch a point)

And here are shows I don't have cels for:
Saturday Supercade (specifically Pitfall!, Donkey Kong, Kangaroo)
    Super Mario Bros. (any series...)
    Pole Position
Megaman (the original Americanized series before the NT Warrior and Star Force)
    Double Dragon
    Mortal Kombat: The Animated Series
    Street Fighter
    Battletoads
Bubsy the Bobcat (only one pilot episode, so it's kind of obscure...)
Pokemon (though I'm trying to steer away from the anime-related gaming cels, else I open up a whole can of worms...)

So are there other shows I'm missing? My only rules:
    - The show must be based on a game, not the other way around - no cels from shows later made into a game.
    - Trying to steer away from anime as there are a ton of obscure (to me anyway) Japanese games that have anime series based on them.
    - "Classic era" is better, but there may be more modern shows I'm unaware of.

So, who can add to the list?

Darkstalkers and Wing Commander also had Saturday(or at least Sunday) morning cartoons. Also, Battletoads was only the one pilot episode as well.

not terribly helpful though, lots of anime. Looks like you did forget Earthworm Jim though. Note that Donkey Kong Country and Viva Pinata are 3D rendered shows and thus will obviously not have cels to hunt.

Goodness. These things exist? Surely Mortal Kombat: The Animated Series would instantly be relegated to the dustbin, sight unseen, for having overly violent content? I mean, I've heard of the direct-to-video movie, but not a Saturday morning cartoon.

Pics of DiC's Darkstalkers cartoon here.

I had the title of the toon slightly wrong. It was Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm and it aired (of all places) on the USA Network:

    Wiki entry for MK toon

Check out the voice cast: Luke Perry; Ron Perlman; Olivia d'Abo; Cree Summer... Big names here...

    As for the other two:

Pole Position toon (though there is no connection with the game, per se)

Mega Man toon series based on the original game series (and the better of all of the Mega toon, in my opinion)

Actually, this was VERY helpful. It remeinded me of a few series I had forgotten.

And, thanks to this list, I just added a cel from the Bomberman series to my collection.

Oh hey, good job at ME missing EWJ from your list while telling you were missing it. Sleep is good sometimes I guess.

Sorry, this thread is for cartoon based on videogames. Bucky O'Hare the comic book outdated them all. So it runs like this: Comic book > Videogame > Cartoon. We're searching for those characters who first premiered in a videogame THEN went on to cartoons, comic books, etc.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucky_O_Hare

Edit: Actually, the videogame was based on the cartoon, which came after the comic! So ol' Bucky don't count for this list, I'm afraid.

Sam 'n' Max was likewise a comic book before it was a game or a cartoon. (The "Surfin' the Highway" TPB used to be very elusive, but apparently Telltale arranged for some sort of reprint earlier this year.)

Tak and the Power of Juju is a series on Nik now. It started life on the PS2/Cube/Xbox/GBA, before shifting to the Nintendo lines exclusively.

However it is a CG show, so no animation.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I think you're missing The Power Team, the cartoon from Video Power.

Just added a new game-toon cel to my collection. Been waiting for cels from this show to pop up too.

I'm curious, where are you finding the cells at?

I've found 'em all over the place. Ebay's a good place (surprisingly). Also folks who have online stores who deal in anime are good too. Found one or two at game conventions. Etc. I check all of the time since you never know when one of those cels may pop up from a little-remembered cartoon show. I missed my chance at securing a Mutant League cel years ago and I've never seen one for sale since. So I jump at them as soon as they surface before they disappear again.

This one brings my gallery collection to 14. (Where in the World is Carmen San Diego; Bomberman Jetters; Q*Bert; Sonic the Hedgehog; Super Mario World (Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi); Frogger; Captain N (with Gameboy); Legend of Zelda; Pac-Man; Space Ace; Donkey Kong Jr.; Dragon's Lair; Earthworm Jim; and now Wing Commander Academy)

And I have another one I just discovered that I'll have before tomorrow. I'll let it be a surprize.

I was thinking of collecting the cells myself, right now in just trying to get the shows.
