To those saying that he's not that good at the game, well, he did beat the game didn't he? I'd say that's pretty good..
Also, the character of the nerd is obviously supposed to relay the feelings kids had while playing the games in the 80's. The whole show seems to be a reflection of that.
looking forward to part 2
Agreed as well. Some of you need to step down from your high horse about how you're so great at video games. The point of games is entertainment and fun, something that is completely thrown out the window in the titles James reviews - which is grounds for said frustration.
Good one Can't wait to see what he does with the next one!
I enjoyed the Castlevania video, but it took me out of the review when he showed part of the script for a few seconds. I mean, I realize almost everything in his reviews is scripted ahead of time, but I like the illusion of it being spontaneous.
Two weeks go by and he hasn't released the next video. Usually an episode in parts doesn't take weeks, atleast when you're viewing most game fan reviewers.
Maybe the nerd is too busy signing a loose copy of Castlevania and putting it on Ebay to sell for the price of a complete and mint copy of Rendering Ranger.
He might be waiting until the final week to post it. Think about it, its a halloween special. Holding the second half until the final week will build up more of a greater feeling wanting to watch it, and nearing the holiday only makes it better to watch..
Atleast thats how I would see it...
Currently Hunting: Any Virtual Boy game except Mario Tennis and Teleroboxer!
I have noticed that the AVGN mostly likes to review games that tie into pop culture like his Wayne's World review. Its a good strategy to keep his casual viewers happy even though they sometimes tend to be bland in my opinion compared to his older work where his anger is fueled by childhood disapointment.
The Monster Madness thing is kind of annoying to me however. I know he is a big horror buff (as am I) but I can never really get into his reviews of like 1930's horror or Godzilla. Its a big part of his personality so I guess I can excuse it because it is part of his overall genius.
You know, every time I go to a bar to watch the Jets inevitably lose, I inevitably come across a guy who came to that bar decked out in the colors and logos of the Jets opponent for the week. Rather than just watch the game and enjoy himself with other sports fans, he decides to spend his three hours stirring up shit and trying to get under everyone's skin. Doesn't matter what just happened in the game -- the Jets scored, the Jets punted, the opponent scored, the opponent punted, first down, second down, fourth down... you get the idea -- he finds something to shit on.
He seems to know anything and everything about the Jets, and by the time the game is over, he has ruined everyone's good time and then wonders why people are trying to punch him in the face.
I'd say "you are that guy," but I would hope that you caught the extended metaphor.
Settle down, raise a family, join the PTA
Buy some sensible shoes and a Chevrolet
And party 'till you're broke and they drag you away
It's okay, you can dare to be stupid
