Do people here count? If so then yes. Other than that I don't think so. Also, I had a buddy from college buy something from me once. I didn't know it until he sent his contact info. That was a funny moment.

I would think a better question is who hasn't. I know I've been in a war with a few people on some higher ticket items.

I don't think I've competed with anyone here yet. I'm wondering if I will when I try to get the last couple of things I'm looking for.

"Bidding war"? Nope, not in the past 5 years anyhow. I only bid once so I never get in a 'war' so to speak.

In a bidding war... last time was in '04. I've learned my lessons since then, now if I can only find that screenshot. If its a big deal item (the only kind worth having a war over) and others are interested that I know (which means DP people) i'll talk with them and we'll figure something out. No point in causing a friend extra $$.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Not quite a bidding war, but there were a LOT of times I'd set up an esnipe and then a few days later go check and see I was about to knock out mah good demo buddy Lockshaw. Much to say greedily, Game Rave comes first, but lately I've been backing off, especially with stuff I already had (but needed a replacement).

I can't recall the last thing I truly waged a war on.

Sometimes all is fair in bid and war.

Along with my colleagues up above, I've been part of the "no bidding wars" club for a few years

I try not to bid against people I know, either.

Bidding wars are for noobs who have no idea what the hell they are doing. While this is acceptable for beginners, theres nothing more embarrassing than seeing ebay veterans of 3 years or more getting into bidding wars as if they just started using ebay for the first time. I only got into those when I started on ebay...back in 2002.

As for today, nobody will have any idea who they are in a bidding war with(I hope no one on this forum is idiotic enough to still get in bidding wars) thanks to ebay's new ninja bidding. Now everyone is a two-letter three-star ninja with a secret identity. So the only person in any giving auction who's identity gets revealed is the winner. All the rest shall remain nameless losers.

I've been outbidded a few times by people I know. I finally figured out that they were only bidding on Items I had a watch on. After I stopped putting a a watch on the items I wanted there were no more problems.

Not in a very long time. Not since I started using esnipe, I don't get involved with those things anymore

How would they know what items you had a watch on? I know the seller can tell how many people are watching their auctions, but I thought that was the most anyone could know. Is there some option I'm not aware of?

Good question. However, like you said, the seller is the only one that knows how many people are watching their items. The only way someone else could tell is if they had access to your account.

Or you bid on the item... you can search for what someone's bid on in most countries.

I love bidding wars...on items I'm listing I never get carried away like that though when I'm bidding. What's the point? It'll be listed again at some point anyways. And more than likely some of those times it won't get many bids. All it takes is patience and not having a "gotta have it now" attitude. It also pays to know how to find the items listed in the cracks of ebay..listing mistakes, mispellings, items with no pictures(after lots of comunication), etc... I got myself 4 "Intelvisions" that way for $15

I'm glad I'm not the only one to figure out all that useful knowledge. True story: on ebay 2 or 3 years ago I got a factory sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gold collector's edition for $32. How? Well, several people bid, but they didn't exactly know what they were bidding on. There was a picture of the item, but no where in the title or description did it say the item was "new" or "factory sealed". The seller just listed as complete. Although it was side ways, I could still tell from the picture that it was sealed. Keep in mind this was during the time when one of these regularly went for $100 and up. So like jb143 said, it pays to be patient and astute.

I've only once been in a bidding war and truth is, it was petty. It eventualy ended with the other person bidding more then the game was worth. Now days if someone tries to start a bidding war, I just bump their bid to a point I'm either comfertable at a max or untill I win. Either way I still win because I know if their max, I'll be able to make them pay ever damn penny.
