Which is better? Third party or Official?

You could also refurbish it yourself by bending the pins back in place. That would be free and no problems unless you have corroded contacts that may snap.
Of course the above assumes that you've attempted cleaning your cartridges and connectors.
i think everyone has already said it, but when you pull it apart do the stereo-sound mod.
Now it is the beginning of
a fantastic story! Let us

Good luck!
I gather clipping the NES10 chip is not generally advised?

If the games / connectors are dirty or so bent that no connection is being made disabling the 10NES chip won't do anything. It's not even really necessary for 99% of the users out there as everything (outside of a few pirates, the odd grey area import, and some development stuff) will run in a clean system.
Not meaning to hijack the thread, but I have an NES that will not power on. Is there any way I could repair this problem for cheap? Thanks.
o rly? I guess this bit was wrong, then.

Yeah, I have many toaster NES's, and I like to buy these to refurbish the pins. Well, I got this one, and it wouldn't power up. I tried 2 or 3 Nintendo brand A/C adapters, and none would work. The adapters work because I tested them with my working NES's. So where do I go from here? Thanks in advance.
It's still not true stereo as in games were designed to take advantage of it, it's still splitting different parts of the mono line to different sides.
Yeah, I know what was written there. A poor connection is still a poor connection. Example: an Atari VCS doesn't have a lockout chip but a dirty cartridge will give you a scrambled screen on startup. Another common example of this is people that clip and ground pin 4 of the 10NES chip and still have errors such as games getting fuzzy blocks, garbled graphics a little while into play, and so forth - that's from a poor connection, usually caused by dirty connectors.
I really wouldn't know but you've got the easy one taken care of. Aside from my old original NES that just up and crapped out totally one day I've had excellent luck with all NES systems I've come across.

But it is not dual mono like you inferred.
Games may not take advantage of it, but there still is separation of sounds, thus it is "true dual channel stereo". It's just Mario jumps on the right speaker.
Ya i think im going to go with the original pin. $15 not bad shipped.
