You know, that's something you really don't want to hear from a customer selling their goods to your store. After explaining that no store in the whole of northern NJ had the cash to pay fo...

Great story Joe. I'm so glad my ex never asked for my PS1 back after we broke up. Of course I would have said no, but it's still good she didn't

Sorry about that, the RSS 'bot makes these links possible. Well, the good news is that we should have blogs back on DP again in the near future (an update to vBulletin will allow this) after which I'll be happy to bring the tales back "home". I've also been keeping blog entries and other tidbits in a separate document file. Not sure if I want to go the book route but somewhere somehow the entire compendium will be available in one easy-to-read spot.
How about putting it together into an e-book and print format?
Joe/ Mr. Digital Press, when I worked at EB, thats actually how I got a bunch of my rarer games. A very attractive woman in the 19-24 range came in with a stack of games. She had Xenogears, Alundra, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve II, Legend of Dragoon, Saga Frontier, a slimline PS2(these just came out) and some random SNES stuff, the most noteworthy was a near complete Secret of Mana. When I asked her why she was getting rid of all this stuff, she said: "My boyfriend hasn't paid the rent in three months, this time he's going to pay." Needless to say, I just bought it off her cash except for the PS2.
The guy did come to the store asking around for the guy who bought his stuff, and I told him he quit.. heh
I'm honestly surprised..... you have your fair share of weirdness in your store. If gas wasn't so expensive, I'd make a road trip from the south to get all your Turbo Grafx stuff.

I'm surprised your store allowed that kind of thing. I've told my team that if I ever find out they bought a customer out from under me I'd fire them on the spot. I guess everyone's got their rules, this is one of very few I have and one that I'm quite serious about - if my employees are undercutting me on rare games then I can't make a living which ultimately hurts them too.
Sorry to go off topic in my own thread
Well, I would have gotten in trouble had the district manager found out. But I was leaving EB to return to school, and the store was giving her like $1 per game. Actually, I was a great employee for the most part except for that. I think I gave her what the games were worth. Honestly, if she wasn't as pretty as she was, I wouldn't have helped her out. I know thats shallow, but she had to have been the prettiest woman I'll ever see in my lifetime.
I can see exactly where you are coming from, but at a store like yours, you would have given a decent amount of cash.
Hey, nothing wrong with going off-track. But I'll shut up- I don't wanna be a thread stealer.

I will admit I undercut GameStop on a few games when I worked there. Honestly it's how I've gotten quite few gems from my PSOne collection. But if I'd worked for a company that didn't completely blow, or a single individual running a small business I never would have done it. There's hurting a company that dicks over it's customers and employees, and then there's dicking over a friend you work for.
Just a thought.

as long as you're just hurting the big faceless compnay you're working (thats paying you no less) for its ok?
awesome really ;-)
Awesome story. I'd have trade-ins like that now and then at FYE on an ex's movies or cds.
My Gaming Collection (Now at Google Drive!)
Yup. Pretty much. Personal collection comes way before any obligations to a shitty retail job.
I wanted to stay away from the whole "its ok because it's just a faceless corporation" logic. In reality the job sucked, but at the end of the day I walked away with some fantastic games that I love. No regrets. But back to the point if our DM had treated any of us respectfully I wouldn't have had the "fuck you" attitude in the first place. And I never would have dreamed of undercutting the store, again if I worked for a real human being.

i acually act the exact opposite. i'm much less helpful to beautiful women at work, they remind me of all the pretty girls that wouln't give me the time of day back in school. their looks get them enough free rides in life, there not going to get any more help from me. i suppose thats being shallow in a diffrent way though.
i acually feel kinda bad for the guy loseing his stuff (in both cases)...thank god my relationship isn't like that. we don't take out anger out on eatch others personal possessions. thats wrong, we take out our anger where it should be, on eatch others emotional well being.
