Default Galaga rom error?? Need Help!

I went to look at the playchoice 10 as stated in the other thread and the guy selling also had a galaga machine. I wasn't impressed with the playchoice since the games are exactly nes games.
Anyway, Galaga is in my top 5 games I want. He said the screen comes up with the galaga stars in the backround and says rom or ram error. He told me the previous owner said it was working fine right before the error message. The cab itself is in good shape with minor wear all around. He wants $450 as-is. I know working ones go for $750-800 in this condition. Is this something easily fixed?? I don't have a backround in electronics, so I can't do anything too involved.

What do you guys think? I think I probably could get him down to $400.

Just a quick note. The game always worked last time I/he/she plugged it in. You will hear that a lot. Personally I won't spend more than $100 maybe $150 on a non-working game. Galaga is always way overpriced too. Now if there is a bad solder somewhere it should be easy to fix. You can reseat your chips (ie desolder and resolder). If you need to re burn the rom on one of the chips you need special hardware for that. Do you feel confident in soldering and using a multimeter? Keep in mind I'm no expert and others here may have better information, but I hope this helps. If you really want the game I would try to get him down to $300. I've found that patience is the key. I just found an asteroids deluxe for $10 in great shape!

If you can get the cab cheap, you could just install a new Game Board..I did that with my Ms Pac Man Coctail Table.

Check on Ebay as I sw one listed, though I'm not sure if it'll fit your machine though.

I have small GALAGA cab, that was converted to something else before I got it..I currently have a Klax set-up in it
I'd like to restore it,mainly needing the board as it still looks to have all the original wiring in it.
The thing is I don't know what went wrong with the cab in the first place..Everything left in the cab from Galaga may be shot.

After you buy it, you may be able to fix the problem, yourself. Most likely just need to switch out a chip.

Alot cheaper than sending a board in for repair, or buying a new one.

A plethora of Galaga repair info here... Including ROM error messages.
