ANNNNND I just creamed myself lol
Most of those just look like high res scans from books. Cool, but was hoping for something along the lines of the FFIX stuff that was rendered at a higher polygon count for some HK DVD. Not sure why I care... I've only played 2 FFs.
They do look scanned, but i'm not sure from where. They came from a disc i got from SCEE. I'm guessing it's an internal disc for marketing?
EDIT: I just added 3 more pics showing people actually working on the game. Don't know if this is any more interesting to people or not.

Wow, some of those pictures look like crap. I mean, it looks like Square abused the contrast level on those things. Ick. :\
On the other hand... I had no idea Yoshitaka Amano had done some art for the game. Cloud looks a lot more ... human than every other illustration I've ever seen. At least his hair looks normal!
I always liked the drawn concept art better than 3d models. I wish they showed us more of that, it's always helpful (and cool) to see how the characters first looked like and whatnot. I love Amano's art also.
I dislike the Tifa Nomura drew though. Her legs are too long for her torso and it really creeps me out.
Dracula: The constant villain of the series. His usual tactics include breaking a number of wine glasses and transforming into his true form.
