Default Favorite Metal Slug game? (RRM)

    Retrogaming Roundtable Memories:

This thread was started by ShinobiMan on version 1.0 of the Retrogaming Roundtable on 5/02/02

They're some of the most beutiful games in exsistence... so fluid in animation and gore, you got to love 'em! The Metal Slug series is an action gamers dream come true, and there have been 5 releases. I haven't played the last two, so I thought I'd get your opinions. Which is your favorite Metal Slug game? (Does not include handhelds)

I had to go with 3 for the variety it has over the others. Not to mention it's the largest MS game, plus I think it also has the best graphics and music to boot. I think what really makes MS3 the best, is on stage 5 when the game turns into a classic space shooter, that is just so , like, awesome dudes!!

I agree, all of them are great games, but I would have to say my fav is MS 2. I had it at my local arcade, and I beat it enough times (It took me months to beat it with less than 20 tokens. Down to 17! ).

3 is the total package. And it kicks my ass every time.

They're all good, but I gotta give the nod to 3.

(BTW- people with an import friendly PS2, don't forget Metal Slug 3, sometime in May...I think...unless they pushed it back again...)

I liked 2 the best. I haven't finished 4, yet. 3 was waaay harder than the others and as a result less fun. X is kinda lame cause it's just really a remix with elements of 2 and 3 mashed together and no storyline. It only made sense to play it in the arcade because it was made to correct the slowdown issues of part 2, which non-issues on the PC and PSX.

I love the entire series....it would take sacrificing a vital body part to get me to stick to one..maybe

BTW-has anyone read the SNK press release? Seems that they're bringing a new Metal Slug to consoles......in 3D. I don't like the idea of a 3D MS...Slug has such a distinctive visual style, there's no way that Playmore will capture it with polys. I dunno, if it's still side scrolling, I'll be open, but a FPS Metal Slug would be ASS mainly because I hate FPS' *shrugs*

Does Playmore even use the SNK name anymore? What about a 2.5 D side scroller like Pandemonium and Klonoa? That way you can use polys and 3D perspectives but never have to deal with the bad angles and adjusting the camera.

I love metal slug 3... but im going to have to vote for metal slug x here. I absolutely love the boss designs... I can play this game endlessly and never get tired of it.

Guess I might as well weigh in...Metal Slug was the first I saw (duh! Well, you know. Saw it when it was virtually brand new.) but three's still the most fun. Hmm...hard to say actually. One or three, I'd imagine. No idea about five yet.
