I haven't been paying attention to store shelves, and don't really go to game shops much. Are Wiis still impossible to find, selling out within an hour of receiving the shipment?

All I know is I've never seen a single one in any store. I think it's a myth...Wiis don't really exist at all!
Well, I still haven't seen one on a store shelf beyond the one I bought last year.
I did see one used in a game store the other day packaged with 4 games for $400...didn't seem to be flying off the shelf, and I probably won't be heading back to that store anytime soon to check on its life there.

In my area they're still impossible to find. The only one I've ever seen so far was at a Target in May-June of last year.
6-12 months after launch I can understand a shortage but it's been a year and a half already. Is Nintendo even trying to meet demand, or is making it impossible for people to buy their sytems all part of their marketing strategy?
Besides the time I bought mine (in Feb '07), I've only seen a Wii on the shelf once. That was last summer...and keep in mind, I'm in the video game aisles quite a bit.
"One of the ways I gauge a DS game is by recharges. "...Tycho (Penny Arcade)
They seem to be, but my local Blockbuster of all places had a couple just a couple of days ago. One had been there a few days...not somewhere most people are looking...
It seems like they are coming in more often, but the quantities are still low - only a few at a time to many stores.
Every store I have been to recently has at least 10 in stock... so in Victoria, BC - no.
I look every time I go into a store (Wal Mart/K Mart/Target/Best Buy/CC/etc) and I've seen 1 on the shelf since I purchased mine last summer...1...
I think part of the problem is these morons still trying to turn a quick buck so they buy them up even if they don't want one...
Either way...what a cluster fuck...I can't believe its so hard to find one of these this far after launch.
I can only blame Nintendo...I guess...I don't know who else to blame. I've never seen a console sold out for this long and there have been many systems this popular in the past...who knows...
Take a hike, wang-broom!
I swear I can smell your stinky hands from here!
I'd like to know any system as popular as this one has been. With sales figures as high as Nintendo's posted for the Wii, I'm at a loss to name one.
I see them from time to time at Targets mostly. I've seen them only a handfull of times at Wal-mart though. Normaly they are sold out within a few days.
I saw my first Wii at a store last month at a Target store. It was the last one left. When I was there looking at the games, someone was asking to buy it. I haven't seen any since then.
there are a couple of problems to this... nintendo ramped up production as much as they can in the facilities they have. They're pumping out almost 2 million consoles a month, it just happenst to be that they're all selling out.
The problem with adding more manufacturing is that demand well outstripped what nintendo expected. They're not sure when the bottom is going to drop out and they don't want to be in the middle of building a billion dollar manufacturing facility when demand finally levels out.
The only sound business move they can make is to wait it out. It's not like a lack of supply has lowered demand. Why take the risk?
I just called Nintendo World in Manhattan. The woman told me they have the Wii in stock. I asked how many and she said, "I'm not allowed to release that number."
I said, "Okay, but do you have more than one?" and she repeated, "I'm not allowed to release that number."
Anyway, with Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, and Rock Band, the Wii should be continue to fly off store shelves for the time being.

In Columbus, Georgia and Montgomery Alabama they are everywhere. I see 3-4 on the shelves in every Wal-Mart/Target/Movie Gallery/etc.
The story of "there is none" works for where I live. We had to talk up the managerial tree at a popular game store to get it one for my sister. (I've owned mine since launch day)
still impossible to find here in nyc, each gamestop has a little sign saying they are out of stock. if they do get any, they are gone within hours. clerks get over 30 calls a day, every day, asking about wiis.
wanted to add that the shortage definitely has nothing to do w/ people buying to resell, wiis on ebay, new, are going either for retail price or slightly above (shipping cost not included). the used wii prices which are really high at local shops are ridiculous, yes, but i dont see those 300-400$ wiis moving around here.
Still hard to find, people still selling them for 350+ on ebay, amazon, craigslist, etc.
Being an Assistant Manager at a GameStop around here I can tell you that they have been the same in rarity for the past few months, only getting some in a few times a month and only a few at a time...and those few go in the first half hour everytime we do get some in.
