When I turn on my NES I sometimes get a purple screen. Is this the problem associated with the 72pin connector? If so or not, any idea on how to fix it?

If it is the 72 pin connector then you might just need to replace it. there plenty of places that sell them and have instructions on how to do it. when I put in a new pin connector in my NES it only took about 20 minutes.http://nintendorepairshop.com this site sells the connectors and has instructions on how to do it.
