Post Atari Founder Proclaims the End of Gaming Piracy [Slashdot]

OMGZombies writes "Speaking on a conference held yesterday in New York, the Atari founder Nolan Bushnell said that a new stealth encryption chip called TPM will 'absolutely stop piracy of gameplay'. The chip is apparently being embedded on most of the new computer motherboards and is said to be 'uncrackable by people on the internet and by giving away passwords' though it won't stop movie or music piracy, since 'if you can watch it and you can hear it, you can copy it.'"

Ah, the old "Build a better mousetrap" bit....

    I give it 5 months before it's cracked/bypassed.

After making that statement, Nolan Bushnell, fully nude (except for his signature pipe) walked away, returned to the ocean from which he emerged ... swam out to sea and submerged not to be heard from again ...

... a reporter on the scene snapped this photo right before Mr. Bushnell disappeared from sight.

Who wants to make a list of "uncrackable things" then list how many of those have been cracked?

I'm sure the comparison has already been made somewhere, but anyways, that picture of Nolan always reminds me of this:

Nolan said game piracy is over. That's as official as it gets.

    So if this is implemented...

Does that mean everyone will HAVE to upgrade their machines since games will look for the new chip?

I'd be more pissed about that, honestly.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

Especially considering the number of people who upgraded to Dual Core and Vista for DirectX 10. Bad time to be a PC gamer!! It's a pretty general rule that it is never a good time to buy a new PC but the last couple years have been hell on PC gamers.

Methinks ol' Nolan is hanging out with Todd Bishop a bit too much.

Where did you get that picture? That reminds me of a movie I saw when I was 5 and I can't find out the name of it! It involved a girl killing the whole family and she was going to blow up the house with bombs. There was also an old guy in a boat who looked similar to the one in that picture you posted, he was even wearing the same color of a raincoat.

    Sorry for going OT.

    Not Nolan's pipe, certainly.

Sooo...they aren't going to make games anymore? I have a feeling that will be the only way to end gaming piracy.
