    Default Genesis reset button broken

So I got a Genesis 2 and it works fine, but the reset button doesn't work. I knew this before buying it and was planning to try and fix it; however, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem before and could give any advice. I haven't looked at it yet, so it may just be something simple.

the button wore out, easy to replace. just desolder it and put a new one in. i had to do that for a model 1 with a bad reset switch

I had it on my 7800. I just cut the traces to the pause button and bridged the connection so that pressing pause would reset. Also switched the buttons themselves, so it made sense.

Of course, this may or may not be helpful. Maybe it can give you an idea though.

ssjlance, I'm not sure if I'd be able to do something like that on the Genesis.

SnowKitty, that may help, but where would I get another reset button?

Edit: Anyways, I opened up to look at the problem. It seems like the reset button just needed to have its position reset. Crisis averted as it works fine now.

If the reset button is the same as the gen 1 model I can send you one. I have a few to scrap out for chips.

It's working well now, so don't worry. Anyway, the Gen 1 and 2 reset buttons are totally different if I'm not mistaken. Although I guess it would be possible to mod the console so it would work...

I'm 78% certain the reset switch are the same..

The power switch on the other hand are very different.

I'm bumping because I still have the same problem. Let's recap.

In the summer, I bought this Genesis with a broken reset button. I took it apart and found that the actual reset part does work (as in every time I pressed it, the Genesis reset). I put it back together and all was right with the world. In August, the reset button stopped working again, but I said screw it and put it away while I went to college.

Flash forward to last month when I decided to bring my Genesis to school and the reset button still is fussy. I played around with it a little to find that usually it worked when I reset the position, but plugging in a controller seemed to bump it out of place.

I searched around on the net and found that the reset button malfunctions on a lot of Genesis 2 consoles, but no one seemed to be very descriptive on what their problem was. If anyone here has had this problem and fixed it, I'd be interested in knowing how. I found a replacement reset button, but I wanted to see if this is the problem or if it something else.

I actually encounter this problem a lot...
Desolder the old reset switch and replace it with any new small 4-legged tact mount switch....You may have to extent the legs apart a bit to fit it, but once installed, you won't have this issue again for another few years...

My Genny has been like this for years, while a reset button would be nice, I just never needed it enough to worry with repairing it. It is interesting to see that it is such a common issue.

I have about six Model 2 Genesis systems and all of them have a broken reset button. I'll have to try a repair sometime, but for now I just turn it off and on when I want to reset.

The sad part about all this is that I sold my other Genesis 2 with a working reset button after I "fixed" the one I'm having problems with. I'll probably try to look for a cheap one at a Resale Shop or Flea Market some time. For now, I'll just have to play X-men on my CDX so I can beat the game. That is if I can ever beat it.

    Thanks for all the comments.
