Default top arcade games from post 1984 era?

ok, so we know the games that were the big hitters in the pre-84 era, your asteroids, robotrons, ms pacmans, donkey kong's would be amoung the games that were considered then, and still now, the top, most competative and gained the most bragging rights if you were good.

But what would be the top post 84 era games?

I know what my favorite games are from that era but in terms of competative, bragging rights games, i struggle to give a defeinative answer beyond street fighter 2 and hyper sports as most games weren't really score or competition based.

I loved golden axe, super sprint, Double Dragon, tecmo world cup etc but these games, while being fun just don't fit what i'm looking for.

Avoiding listing the whole 2d fighter catalogue what would be your take on big competition games from this era?

I'm not a huge arcade fan, but my favorites are:

    1. Killer Instinct
    2. Cruis'n USA
    3. Cyber Cycles
    4. Top Skater
    5. Wind Jammers
    6. Street Fighter II
    7. Super Sprint
    8. Daytona USA
    9. Killer Instinct 2
    10. Mortal Kombat II

    Honorable mention - NBA Jam

    I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

The game that immediately popped into my head was Street Fighter II.

Bragging rights from high scores back then changed to bragging rights with 1 on 1 VS play in fighting games, to being good at DDR and other Bemani games...

    Virtua Fighter
    Tekken

Those were two I loved alot and played at the local arcade quite frequently. And hey, they aren't from the 2-D fighter catalogue hehehe

There was still classics that came out even during the crash: (1984-1986)

    Super Sprint
Super Mario Bros. (Obviously. Actually, most of Nintendo's 'Vs." games did quite well, during the crash. Especially Duck Hunt and Hogans Alley)
    Space Harrier
    Out Run
    Hang-On
    Rampage
    1942
    720 Degrees
    Paperboy
    Rush N' Attack/Green Beret
    Ikari Warriors
    Gauntlets 1 & 2
    Arkanoid
    Commando
Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom
    Gradius
    Kung Fu Master
    Karate Champ
    The Legend of Kage
    Ghosts N' Goblins
