do you remember stop & swap feature(getting stuff from first game and transferring it over to the tooie? I spent countless hours in hope finding all secrets of stop & swap, but this mode has never been finished on N64), this feature is finally materializing on xbox live arcade!!!

How can Microsoft release the Banjo games on XBLA but not allowed to release Golden Eye? They're both games originally made by Rare for the n64, right? So how can one be released and not the other?

Well, unless something's changed I'm not aware of, Microsoft owns Rare and Rare owns Banjo Kazooie and so they can release the games on XBLA. This is not unlike being able to play Streets of Rage on XBLA.

In regards to Goldeneye, that's the James Bond license which Rare does not have. Just because the game was released years ago doesn't mean they can't re-release it now as they'd have to pay MGM for the right to.

From what I remember reading a few months ago, it was because of Nintendo that Golden Eye was not released on XBLA and had nothing to do with MGM. Is that wrong, or does Nintendo still own the rights to the game?

i read on some blog that the game was complete, activision (current holders of the bond license) had agreed (ie: was paid enough) to let it be released, but nintendo threw a hissy and threatened to stop the flow of activision games on the wii, so no dice. said that ms offered to let ninty have a vc version, but nintendo didn't blink. activision did.

One of my top five games of all time. Nice. B-K beats the living shit out of every Mario game in every imaginable way. Donkey Kong 64 2 err...I mean Banjo Tooie was a turd, but whatever, I'll buy it anyway.

Rare owns all of that, Nintendo has no claims to it. Goldeneye only got cancelled because Activision (the current James Bond license owner) wanted Nintendo's approval to protect their relationship with Nintendo, which didn't go for it even when they offered to also release it on the Virtual Console. Legally, Nintendo had no say in the matter. (Edit, I should read the whole thread before replying ).

+1. That was the best and worst news, hearing about the port/remake and then being shot down.

I still say it would be the top selling Arcade title, if it ever sees the light of day...

On topic: Great news. It'll give me an excuse to revisit Kazooie, and give me NO excuse to finally try Tooie.

Thats weird, during the press conference they made it sound like only the first would be making its way to the XBLA, I must have missed the bit about Tooie as well? or was this revealed later on?

they talked only about kazooie, but then I heard david ellis on 1up podcast talking about tooie coming too(he interviewed people at mgs/rare and that's what apparently they told him).
it is weird...
