okay so i just got a 60gb ps3 for 302$ on ebay (after that MS cashback bonus) and was wondering aside from checking the HD space, how can i really tell if its a 60gb version or not?

You can check the manufacture date on the ps3. The closer to the date of launch the better the chances are that it was a 60 gb launch. if it was in 2007 i would say you probhave the REAL 60 GB model. And also i have to give you a hand finding one for 302.00 i havnt seen theses babies go for less than 650-700 on ebay.
Does it have a memory card reader, and chrome trim? If so, then you've got a 60gb. 20GB models do not have either...
Besides that, and checking HD space (Mine was 55GB with no data on it but Sony's OS) the only other way to find out is to open it up, and see if the Emotion Engine chip in it.
I also think the SKU's for the 40 and 80gb models are different than the 20/60gb models - but I'm not 100% sure.

Chuck a PS2 game in the system that has problems on the 80 gig system. Look up games from your library and see how they stack up on an 80 gig system according to Sony's official websit, and see if they have the same problems.
