Default Colecovision Junior System mod help

    Hello,

I picked up a Colecovision system at an auction recently and I'm looking to mod it. I'm going to s-video and a/v mod it. I also saw some cool pictures where somebody made it a "jr" system by removing the controller holders. Has anybody here done that? I'm looking for some pictures or tips on how best to cut the case. Thanks for any help!

ps. my progress will be posted at my blog .... http://thewizdawg.blogspot.com

In my time I've seen pics of 2 such creations on the internet. In both cases the console case was simply cut to remove the controller wells and the outer edge glued back on. I would assume the best bet for this method would be to use a band-saw, but while it does remove about 30%-40% of the overall size it still looks like a console cut and glued back together. I'm working on a similar project, but I'm starting with a new case. I've got a sneak preview thread of my project on AtariAge:

That is fucking awesome, and a great use of the otherwise super-wonky Jag controller.

I chose to omit it for the following reasons:

    1) All consoles get cheaper, have less features, and get smaller with each revision change. I'm just following the pattern presented before me, with the exception of the cheaper part.

    2) Both expansion modules (the Atari 2600 and Adam expansions) would be wider than the console itself and would look stupid coupled up to a Mini ColecoVision. Again following the pattern presented before me (i.e. Sega Genesis Model 3 with the lack of Sega CD support.)

    3) We don't live in the early 80s where the idea of having 2 consoles that cost $200 each is a pipe dream. Anybody who would be in the market for a modded console like this would most assuredly already have a stand alone 2600, 7800 and/or Adam.

    4) The expansion port's lack of a switch, forcing one to insert to use, or remove to not use, the expansion modules is a rediculous pain in the ass.

    5) No one has offered to pay me to make a Mini ColecoVision with access to the expansion port.

    6) I am making this Mini ColecoVision and I never use the expansion modules. I have my own modded 7800 and a stand alone Adam.

It does look pretty sweet though, doesn't it!

Great job indeed, but to me could have been better with all of its capabilities and not follow stereotypes....It can be done.

Realistically I did it because I made this console for myself (not to say I wouldn't sell it, shoot me a PM), and I never use the Expansion Modules.
