    Default N64 insert box holder...

I don't know if this has been noted before, but I noticed that there is some N64 games where the insert in the box that holds the game is removable, and others where it is attached to the box. Was this something that was random, or something that started at a certain time?

Was this like this for the NES or SNES? I don't really know how the boxes were for those systems (beside a few samples I have). Thanks.

not to be mean... but this has be noted.
I think over time it was easier and cheaper to do(attached inserts).

Some time during the N64's lifespan, there was a transition from the removable white trays to the built in trays. I can't tell you when exactly. I also know that there are a few games I have seen with boxes made both ways.

Maybe its like the PS1 Long Boxs, different variants..
Then again, someone knows the answer to this.

Is the majority of them the removable or the built ins? (if you have any idea)

Well, I was thinking about this topic some more, and thought it would be a good idea to make a list. It might be pretty deep if a lot of people contribute. Here is a list of North American N64 boxes (from the boxes I have in my collection) of the ones that are removable (r) and non-removable (nr):

    Bomberman Hero.................................(r)
    Clayfighter Sculptor's Cut.....................(r)
    Excitebike 64......................................(nr)
    F-Zero X..............................................(r)
    Goldeneye 007.....................................(r)
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine(nr)
    Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside...............(r)
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.....(nr)
The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask.......(nr)
    Mortal Kombat 4..................................(r)
    Mario Tennis.......................................(nr)
    Mario Kart 64......................................(r)
    Mario Party.........................................(r)
    Mario Golf..........................................(nr)
    NFL Blitz 2001...................................(nr)
    Nascar '99..........................................(r)
    Nightmare Creatures..........................(nr)
    Perfect Dark......................................(nr)
    Paper Mario.......................................(nr)
    Quest 64............................................(r)
    Rocket the Robot on Wheels...............(nr)
    Space Invaders.................................(nr)
    South Park Chef's Luv Shack..............(nr)
    Super Mario 64..................................(r)
    Tetrisphere....................................... .(r)
    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.....................(nr)
    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2..................(nr)
    WWF No Mercy.................................(nr)
    WWF Wrestlemania 2000..................(nr)
    Yoshi's Story.....................................(r)

*Note: Mario Kart 64 was Player's Choice verison*

Well, that's all the N64 boxes I have. Any others would be appericiated!

Hmm, I can go through my games sometime and check them. I will be going through them all when I get my collections code done anyway, so I can post on here in the next couple days when I start to go through my games.

I only noticed this phenomenon for the first time when I set up my game room a couple weeks back. Very strange coincidence to see this thread pop up. Cool idea, and I'm interested to see if any game comes both ways.
