Default Is the free preorder items valuable/collectable?

I got the Mario coin, Assassins Creed book, Soul Calibur 4 keychain, Castlevania POR items, and the Disgaea music CD. I am not asking if these items in particular are valuable, more ore less are ANY items like these considered valuable? Do you only consider a game complete if it has its preorder items? Lastly do you pay more for a game that comes with its preoreder items?

I do believe they are worth something, but nine times out of ten, it would be for completing a set, not just to have that coin or whatever. I would consider a game complete with or without its preorder items - the game comes in its own self-contained package and anything else is just bonus. That said, I would pay more for a game that comes with its preorder items, but I don't seek them out hardly ever.

I remember the Castlevania thing that came with Portrait of Ruin was fetching a very high price on Ebay.

Oh, yeah - well all the stuff with that could easily be worth more than the game, I would think.

Stuff can be worth quite a bit, but its mostly if the timing is right, of if the promo material is quite old. They made a gazillion Mario coins, but in a few years, there won't be as many and they will command a bit more.

There are many instances of demo games for Dreamcast and PlayStation that are quite valuable now and those were just 'freebees' at one point in their lives.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

If there's hype for a sequel, older pre-order goodies will command more money if you're selling.

When MGS 4 came out, the Metal Gear Saga DVDs were selling for 5-10x what they are now.

The Castlevania one is worth the most. The others not so much.

Just sit on them for awhile, possibly in the future it will be worth more then it is now.

It seems really really hard to predict. The presumption is that bonuses for popular games would be more popular themselves and worth more. The Castlevania bonus items seem to fit that mold. Yet Lunar is relatively popular and fetches a decent amount but the Ghaleon punching puppet is worth $10 at most.

there was a guy on the buying/selling forum the other day (well the post was a few months old i think) with a bount of like $250 for a promotional 3d0 key. to the right person at the right time that kind of stuff can be a goldmine. most of the time its just extra junk though hehe.

it probably depends on what it is, how many were made, and what kind of a following that particular game has. I'd probably go as far to say that buying certain strategy guides would have just as good of a chance of raising the value of the game itself or selling it on its own. Look at the guide for FF7 or Persona 1+2. That easily increases the value of the games when they are sold.

Your right, he's offering more, if I remember correctly, nowadays.

Art Books tend to go for more when the game is released rather then years later. I remember the Xenosaga book went for around $50 when it first came out. Now it goes for about half that.

There's definitely some kind of correlation between the popularity/price of an extra and the popularity/price of the base product for which it is a bonus. Anything Chrono Trigger related is worth more these days. Most things Final Fantasy VII have at least kept their value. Zelda items tend to be a good bet. But, for whatever reason, it's a shaky rule and is heavily dependent on immediate popularity which might explain why the Xenosaga artbook has dropped. Like there's a mad rush for an extra when everyone is in the midst of being enamored by the game but once that fades they don't care anymore.

Alot of my demos for various systems were either preorder bonus's or freebies. And alot of them go for $10-50 a piece. I guess it depends on the item and who's looking for them. It's also hard to determine which items will be rare in the future. However, easy money makers of the last two console generations would be anything rpg related. I still don't get it but thats just the way it is.

As stated before: with the right kind of geek you can get plenty of money for items like that ...

remember the metal gear solid 4 preorder bonus, a dvd and artbook; both were free and sold for 10 or 15 usd on ebay the same day.

International customers are an important factor in princing this items.
