The CDX has a unique proprietary AC adapter.

You can't use any other standard Genesis adapter on it.

You can use Genesis 2/3 AV cables.

The SEGA Genesis CDX has a 9.5V DC adapter. But it should work with normal 9V AC/DC adaptors if you only wanted to play Genesis or even Master System games with the use of the Power Base Converter. It is possible to use the SEGA Game Gear 9V DC .

Also, it works with batteries if you only wanted to listen to the CD-Audio soundtracks ...

Sure, it is not recommended to use third party adapter with the SEGA Genesis CDX or the SEGA Game Gear!!!

As long as it's the same voltage, polarity, connector, and equal or higher amps, there shouldn't be a problem...

I don't know where to begin here other than you're wrong. The CDX (and JVC X'Eye for that matter, they have the same power ratings) wants to draw 1.5A, the Genny adapters only output 0.85A if I remember correctly. You need to use a power adapter that outputs between 9V - 10V @ at least 1.5A. More amperage is fine as the circuit will only draw what it needs. Yeah, a Genny 2 adapter will run it, but for how long until it causes damage?

Arrow Probably Third party Power Supplies should be easier to get.

Hum ... yes, there are hundreds of those power supplies and power adaptors around! A person just need to get one of those generic 9.5V 1.5 A and it should be fine ! Usually if a person take the SEGA Genesis CDX to the electronic store, their could change the plug for *FREE* when someone brought a Power Supply unit.

    JVC

Wasn't easier and cheaper to get just a 9.5V 1.5A DC Power Supply?
If those were difficulty to find, maybe a 9.5V 1.5A AC adapter should work too ...

    What's about?
Canon AD-150 AC Adapter Power Supply 9.5V 1.5A
9.5V AC Adapter Power Charger For ASUS Eee PC 700 701
Polaroid MPA6930A AC Adapter FOR DVD PLAYER 9.5V 3.33A

You could always get a generic power supply from Radio Shack that's close to the specs. That's what I did with my X'Eye when I couldn't track down the original.

And that's all I was saying in my above post, and gave the specs.

Didn't mean for this thread to turn into "random power supply o' the day." (unrelated to the quoted post)

And by "unique" I meant unique to Master System/Genesis/Other game console units, which in some cases can share AC adapters across models.

I'm sure there are other THINGS out there that use similar AC adapters ... but with a unit like the CDX, personally I'd only use the CDX AC.

Nah, I've made my own supplies for the CDX before. As long as the DC is clean there's nothing to worry about.

Some Power Supplies are something like 9V 1.2A ... There are some weird 9V 850 mA that are like the Power Supply used on musical Keyboards . Some consoles even use 10V or even more !!!
    Casio 9V 850 MA

Usually a person just need to get a similar power supply and change the plug into a electronic store.9V 1.2A is close to 9.5V 1.5A ...

    Well.

    Hey.

Look at it this way - all I'm saying is that the CDX is much sought-after bit of Genesis hardware, the original question was "can you use a Genesis 1 AC?", to which the answer is NO.

And if somebody has a working CDX, I don't want to be the person that suggests that they use anything else OTHER than it's original AC if it means that they have a chance of damaging the unit.

I've found the answer to this after long amounts of searching. Here is an universal adapter that works for Sega CDX perfectly. It lets you switch to 9.5v 1.5a and also have several adapter fittings. The Sima SUP-60 Universal AC Power Adapter 3.3V to 9.5V DC Output. You can find it on ebay and other online retailers. Guaranteed to work!
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....ci_sku=7011994

You can actually get it on ebay for around 5-10 bucks w/shipping.

I wish I had known about this earlier. I've been using my SEGA Genesis 2 AC adapter and was just told to watch for it to get hot. It never did so I figured just let it be. Of course now I'll have to buy this... eventually.
    I have a sig?
