Default Got a Game Boy Light!

I couldn't find one when I went to Japan, so I settled for getting one on eBay. I got it for about $65 shipped, which is around the going rate from what I can tell. The indigo backlight is fantastic. I like playing original Game Boy games (like Mario Picross) on the old school black and white (err--green and black) screen.

This is the last system on my list to pick up as far as Nintendo goes (well, this and an orange N64). I'm not expecting to ever find one cheap, so I guess as soon as I decide I can plunk down that much cash I'll have it.

So it's really as awesome as I thought?

I'm not sure how awesome you think it is, so it's a hard question to answer If you haven't played original GB games in awhile, you have to get used to the lower resolution of the screen, and even with the GB Light you get some blurring. To me, though, there's nothing better for playing original GB games on. I think its more comfortable to hold than an SP, and the games dont hang out of the end, which I had a tendency to accidentally bump while playing the SP and making the games freeze.

Very nice boatofcar, I've though about picking up one of these myself for quite some time. Though I absolutely love the idea of a GB Pocket w/ a light...I don't know if I could handle the indigo color...as even the SP purplish backlight bothers me a bit. I might just end up picking up a Pocket and *gasp* forgoing lighting all together.

But man, does your purchase makes me indecisive

I made a mistake in my post above--the screen on the
Game Boy Light is gray and black like the GB Pocket, not green and black like the original brick.

I just traded one of these off. I have to agree that the system is excellent in terms of backlighting and comfortability. I really did love the indiglo type backlight, and the battery life was pretty damn solid.

I got rid of it only because I found that I used the SP (brighter screen model) more to play my games. I am honestly not too happy with the fact that it "colorizes" the old classic Gameboy titles (not the way I remembered them), BUT there is absolutely no blurriness and I can also play GBC and GBA games on the same device. Good enough for me.

Still, the Gameboy Light is a fantastic little handheld. How Nintendo could think that we wouldn't want this in the States is beyond me.

Just select the monochrome green colour palette (or the grey monochrome one if that's your thing).

Nope, no region lock on the Game Boy systems.

May sound stupid, but HOW do I do that?

    Freakin' A! Thanks man!

I really feel like a noob (well, I guess when it comes to the GBA I am!) and I never knew this. I didn't have a manual for the system, if that holds well to my defense Now this IS my favorite Gameboy period. The color scheme was the only thing that bothered me, and now that will not be an issue. LONG live Gameboy!

Heh, glad it's working for you.

I know that above someone said that the GB Light had some blurriness, but how bad is it? I've been playing Operation C on my GB Pocket lately and I'm surprised how blurry the screen is with motion. Surprisingly worse than I remembered and worse than GB Color by a fair margin.

It's slightly better than the GB Pocket I believe....alot due to the light. With the light off it seems exactly the same however. You should go back to the original brick and THEN go back over to the pocket

Man, if I would have known about the color override I would have thought twice about the GB Light. Oh well...

Don't have regrets man. The Light still has a charm that the SP does not. I am a little sad about getting rid of mine personally.... maybe I'll grab another one day if I can find one

I'm not sure that info is actually in the manual. I think it was more of an "easter egg".
