Default Dreamcast S-Video Displays In Black And White

Just bought a " new " dreamcast s-video cable ( red, white, yellow, and the s-video cord )
and it will not display color nor does the picture look good on my samsung 32 inch lcd.

Was i sold a defective s-video cord or might there be another problem?

I've tried to put it onto av and it had color there, same problem on BOTH of my tv's s-video ports.

You either have the wrong region Dreamcast (does Composite show in color), or that S-Video cable is piss poorly wired. You have a monochrome image with dot crawl. S-Videos luma line has no dot crawl, which makes me believe it's wired wrong.

Composite shows 100% perfect from the same cords, the dreamcast model is the American black NFL 2k model.

After some google searching a topic on gamefaqs surfaces with a man that also had this problem who mentioned they are gold plated sumo cords.

Here's a picture of my cords, can anyone here confirm what brand i bought? If these are sumo cords and are terrible could someone please recommend me a different brand?

Get one from a store like EBGames or GameStop if you still can. That way if something goes wrong, you can return it. Besides, I bought one from EBGames years ago, and it worked till the day I gave it away and went to a VGA adapter.

Impossible, they don't carry anything older than gba/ps2 and they, get this, MELT the old stock when a generation shift hits if they can't sell it.

I'm pretty sure that the Chroma wire came off. Say, are all the four S-Video pins present and straight (not bent)? If so, then the bad connection is internal. Could be at the connectors or a bad cable.

No, from his picture, it looks very much like Composite video being fed into the Luma pin.

Proof of this: The Luma line on S-Video doesn't have dot crawl as it has no Chroma, but in his picture, it's a monochrome picture with dot crawl. This would happen if Composite was fed into the Luma line. You can try it, it'll happen.
