Default Unboxing a Game Boy Micro 20th Anniversary Famicom Edition

Just came in the mail today from Hong Kong. I paid about $60 for it shipped, not a bad deal. Anyway, I don't know how many of you have seen this, so I thought I'd take some pics of the packaging and stuff.

And here are some gameplay shots. My tripod made these possible. This thing is hard to photograph in action!

There's more pics in my Flickr set.

I got one of those last month at a GameStop for $30 used and in very good condition (though not as pristine as yours)

I really like the classic Famicom controller design better than just about any GB Micro color scheme/faceplate design I've seen.

Technically Impressed with everything except for the volume controls. No need for them to have been digital ... and they always seem to reset to the halfway point between sessions.

Otherwise, a nice albeit strange last addition to the GameBoy hardware family (since Nintendo has always denied that the DS hardware family isn't part of the same lineage).

I think the reason they made the volume control digital is the way you have to grab the thing might result in a lot of accidental sliding of the volume switch. I think they made the on/off switch exta hard to turn on and off for the same reason.

...or do the other Micros have volume sliders?

Very nice. Is the Micro considered THE gba? I've heard a lot about the SP2, but I'm digging this design.

What is the "I" in the upper left corner?

I think the Micro and the SP2 are very similar in terms of screen quality--the only difference is the size and what kind of ergonomics you like better. I wanted something I could fit in my pocket along with my ipod, cell phone, wallet, and camera. Yeah, I carry a lot of gadgets with me

What is the "I" in the upper left corner?
It's a nod to the original Famicom controller--it's player I.

One more thing worth mentioning is that the Micro will not play GB or GBC games--it's GBA only.

The 20th Anniversary edition GBM has always been my favorite design from the Micro line. It's a shame I never got around to picking one up.

    RIP Gameboy.

I don't think so, but you can get them on eBay. That's what I did.

Yeah, but I don't think the packaging was anywhere near as cool as that. Just the same old box.

I bouthgt mine almost as soon as it was released over there. I got it at Play-Asia for about $140. I don't regret it. I love that thing.
I really really really wanted to get the "Player II" faceplate, but I'll probably never own it. I wish I could have used those useless Club Nintendo points that came with the damn Micro....

$100 for a faceplate!? Yeesh...It'd be nice if the microphone actually worked on that.

Very nice console and pictures, boat. Lovin' the packaging included within the box.

common as dirt. i picked one up in tokyo about a year and a half ago for 40$ MIB. we had a north american release too, this isnt very valuable (for an unboxing thread, at least). btw i think your emissing the pouch that came with it.

the truly rare gem is the GBA SP that sport those colors, get one of those then we'll talk

No. Unless you like dinky screens and have the hands of a 3 yr. old.

    yep.

    heres what youre missing

btw, this thing was released in response to the huge attention the SP version received (it sported the same scheme, materials etc, but was on a clamshell sp -- was a 'response' to the NES version we got here). however that version was extremely limited and sold out almost instantly, i cannot remember the numbers, but i believe it was under 1000 produced (correct me please). there were 5 that were autographed by Miyamoto and put up for sale, 3 in japan and 2 here (also not 100% on the breakup), in the nintendo world center in nyc. i had a chance to pick it up for around 400, i greatly regret not doing so.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, NytroSkull7. I don't know why NoA changed the packaging for the NA release.
