I just picked up a slim ps2 (75001) at my local used game shop. Got a friend that wants a cheap one, so I figured I'd get one for her and test it out first. Plus I used store credit on it. Anyway. This one reads games fine, but the fan makes a really annoying grind/whirr noise. It spins, it moves air, it just sounds like when you fire up an old computer after several years and have a noisy cpu fan. I took it the outer case apart and gave it the old canned air treatment but it didn't help. It looks like the fan's only held on with three screws but they're cranked in there pretty tight and I didn't want to strip the heads trying to take it out. Anybody ever swapped a fan out on one of these before? Seems like an easy enough fix, but I guess depending on part availability and whatever else, maybe I'd be better off just taking it back and hopefully they have one in better shape. What do you guys think?
