Default nes joystick modded for atari compatable

i did this mod a few years back that might be interesting to some.i took a nes joypad and made it work for my c64,atari st,amiga 500 or other atari compatable.i won't give details on how to do it now but i did save the paper telling me how somewhere.if anybody is interested i suppose i could dig it up.the mod used one of the buttons for fire and the other as an extra up function.this is useful for those old games that use up as the jump in many games.instead of using the directional pad UP to jump you just press the 2nd nes button.i remember the mod wasn't that hard to do and was very worth it because i was getting tired of using stick style atari controllers.this also makes the games more enjoyable and easier to master.
    sound interesting?

certainly sounds interesting. What did you use an nes advantage?

ahh cool, if you dig up the schematic post it up id like to see how to do this. Id personally love to rock an nes advantage for a 2600 controller. nice heavy base so i don't have to hold onto the Atari controller with one hand (something i have always hated)

i will see if i can find the paper (not today though).i forgot to mention, the mod also left the stock atari joystick on the same cable.the original nes cable was removed and another cable hardwired to the nes pad and then to the atari joystick itself.so i had 2 joysticks on the same cable.useful if you want to be able to use both.could just solder the atari wire strait to the nes controller but i wanted to have both in there so i wouldn't have to reconnect cables if i wanted to go back to atari stick.this also extended the cable for further reach.

on the nes pad i just took the original nes cable off and found contact points on the circuit board that served the directional and button functions.i had to cut 1-3 traces and solder the cable.

if i can't find the paper i can always open up my mod and see what i did and then post a pic and/or info.

i checked out that link of nes pad to atari and looks more complicated than what i had to go through.i didn't have to remove resisters and chips or use sand paper.i just had to cut a some traces and solder the wires.did some atari joysticks come with 2 fire buttons? i always thought they had only one.
