    Question Broken down Sega Saturn

ok, before it was sent to me it was working fine, I get it and it won't turn on, so I open er up and replace the fuse, everything goes well, I press the button and then sparks shoot out, i drop it a foot in the shock and turned it off, the fuse seems fine but I tried opening it up and something may have melted, there's some grey rubbery dried goo on one of the big brown cylinders, I'll open 'er up again and take some pictures but I'm not sure what is wrong and I don't like holding the board for very long as I don't want to damage it.

Any ideas of the problem or how to fix it?

You might need a new power supply and replace the damaged capacitors.

Say, the cable that you used to plug the Saturn came keyed? Or was it one of the universal ones? It might be that you plugged it backwards.

yea that dried goo is electrolytic fluid from a capacitor most likely.

you dont really need to be afraid of handling the board just follow standard procedures for handling electronics.

try to snap a picture of the damaged caps and also just a few general pictures of the whole board so some of the more technical people here can give you an idea of how to fix this thing. Also if your not comfortable working on electronics there are a number of people who are members of the board who could probably fix it for you.

About the goo, I'm not so sure, after looking at it it looks like some kind of rubber cement for holding in the big brown cylinder, but I'm not sure, so help me out here, what should I be replacing? I'm not so good at this and this is more or less my first attempt at this sort of thing.

As for someone else repairing it, is there anybody in the Leeds area of England who could help me out here, I can't really afford to post it anywhere, that's why I'm hoping its cheaper to repair it than to return to sender.

oh and here are the pictures as promised:

Thank you for the replies so far, I really appreciate the help

this could be a long shot, but first make sure your saturn is rated for your power outlets...

    AC240 volts; 50 Hz (EU)

Swapping the plug fuse was my first thought, I changed the fuse and still nothing, I also tried another plug of the same type and it still didn't work, so I'm really stuck here, any chance I can replace a capacitor without a soldering iron?
