Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness if you're at all into the series.
Great starter system, & there's alot of good games for it....................
Blast Corps is an addictive game. I actually beat it in 3 days... but I played it a LOT... like all day every one of those 3 days. Great fun.
If you like 3d platformers, then the Banjo series is the best on the system, imo.
Jet Force Gemini is fun, but you may pull your hair out once you learn what it takes to beat it.
This is a list of the highest (and lowest) rated N64 games:
Top 50 and Bottom 25 Nintendo 64 games list
Some of my favorites are:
1080 Snowboarding
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Goemon's Great Adventure
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Golf
Mischief Makers
Perfect Dark
Pokemon Puzzle League
Rayman 2
Star Fox 64
Super Mario 64
Wave Race 64
If you like baseball, All Star Baseball 2001 is the best one.
If you like fighting games, Mortal Kombat 4, Killer Instinct Gold, and Super Smash Bros. are the best ones.
If you like racing games, you're in luck. You have plenty of excellent ones to choose from! Beetle Adventure Racing, Diddy Kong Racing, F-1 World Grand Prix, F-Zero X, Ridge Racer 64, San Francisco Rush 2049, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, Top Gear Overdrive, Top Gear Rally, Wave Race 64, Wipeout 64, and World Driver Championship are the best ones.
anyone still buying these i have one new in a box i don't want?
have to say 007 and wwf wasted most of my time.
If you don't want to spend ten bucks for No Mercy, just pick up Wrestlemania 2000. In fact, many people I know who are serious about wrestling games prefer Wrestlemania 2000. It has much less slowdown than No Mercy. The game is less dark too.
The major things that No Mercy have over Wrestlemania 2000 are running grapples (which are very important strategy-wise in matches with friends) and the addition of a ladder match. Be warned though, thanks to the great slowdown whenever there are four characters on screen, the tag team ladder match is excruciatingly slow.
If you want to pay extra to get a better gaming experience, just get Virtual Pro Wrestling 2. It is part of the same line. It came out before No Mercy but has a lot of different moves and a tweaked engine. Of course, the roster consists of mostly Japanese wrestlers, as it is an All Japan Pro Wrestling product. You also need to use a Gameshark to play it, or cut the plastic tabs on the back of the cart. However, the gameplay is tweaked a little to make the game faster paced while still allowing for long epic matches. Nothing beats a Virtual Pro Wrestling tag match with four evenly matched humans. I've had some epic 45 minute bouts. It's my third favorite game of all time, actually.

No, he was correct to begin with Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is on the Nintendo 64 and is the best game in the series. Star Wars: Rogue Leader came out on the GameCube.
My recommendations (in no particular order):
StarFox 64
Top Gear Rally
GoldenEye 007 - it's f****** GOLDENEYE
Perfect Dark
Sin & Punishment
Blast Corps - one of the most unique games ever made. Also unique for the N64 in that it's one of the few 64 games that gets BETTER as time goes on.
Super Mario 64 - best 3D platformer ever made
Mario Kart 64 - best multiplayer mode ever
Snowboard Kids - You have not experienced multiplayer gaming to its fullest and zaniest until you and three other people are yelling at the chairlift.
San Francisco RUSH
Pokemon Snap
Pokemon Stadium 2
Any THQ wrestling game, though obviously No Mercy being the last in the series has the most stuff.
I second Mystical Ninja.
Jet Force Gemini is a good choice as well and yes, it does throw a bit of a curve ball when you're near the end of the game.
I love Jet Force Gemini, excellent music, but I wouldn't recommend it to an N64 newcomer.
Buy everything that was made by the developer Rare. If you would like a "serious" racing game then try to find World Driver Championship. It's Gran Turismo for the N64. Also try to find a copy of Star Wars Episode 1 Racer. It's a Pod Racer game and is VERY good and unique.
