Default Top Load NES Game Genie Adaptor

I recently picked up a top load NES ($10.00 plus 2 controllers and hookups) and I can't find a Game Genie adaptor (I never had a Genie when I was young, I don't know how I lived without it!). I know they are pretty rare and my chances are slim, so is there a way to mod the casing to get the Genie to fit without damaging the connector? I don't want to try anything too extravagant. I'd never forgive myself if I destroyed my top loader. Sad thing is I saw one on eBay for $4 about 2 days before I got my new NES. Any suggestions?

They're pretty rare. You can try to find one for cheap on Ebay/elsewhere, but I would expect to pay anywhere from $20-40 for one, and upwards of $75+ for a boxed/complete one. I don't know anything about modding the case to help you out, sorry man.

Just take the Game Genie out of its plastic shell, it's held together by 4 Philips screws underneath the back label.

The adapter is a bridge of sorts, correct? Now a totally different Game Genie?

That is correct. It is like a device that lets you play Super Famicom games on a SNES, Sega Mega Drive to Sega Genesis, etc, except it is for a game genie, not a game.

I tried taking it apart, but the board must be too big...still wouldn't fit. Guess an adaptor is the only way to go

I thought the problem was that the Genie board was a thicker board than the NES carts. See, the original toaster NES used a ZIF socket, so when you pushed the game down it made a diagonal connection with the top and bottom pins. However, the toploader used a tighter connection so NES carts did not have to go in diagonally. So, a Game Genie board was too thick for the toploaders. Am I wrong on this?

Heh, I managed to cram my game genie down in my toploader and it worked fine. It was hell to get it back out, but if you're looking for a permanent solution that shouldn't be a problem.

I remember calling Galoob to see about ordering one of these adapters when I first got my top-loader way back when. They actually sent it to me free of charge, and it arrived the next day. Pretty damn cool of them, I think.

That's cool Sudo! I heard they used to do that, but I never heard what kind of packaging it came in. Any memory of this? I don't think anyone knows what a MIB adapter looks like, heh.

They are rare, I believe after thinking about it for a second.

It's been a while, but I don't remember it coming in any special packaging. I wish I still had it.

Yall must be talking about the official Nes toploader because my game genie works fine with my Yobo top loader(although I had two other ones that wouldn't work). It fits fine, it's just really tall.

Some guy found like fifty of them around ten years ago in a thrift store for $2 each. They were in plain cardboard boxes.

It was around the same time that Galoob dropped support for the Game Genie.

Yes, it is the official top loading NES that the game genie doesn't fit without the adapter.

What if the board were trimmed down? Would that work?
