No. There's no way you'd get the Wii controller to fit in the Gyro Aparatus without completely modifiying the entire setup.
The Gyros didn't even rest on the controller buttons anyway, they rested in holders that pressed down the controller buttons via levers.
If you're playing your Wii on a standard, non flat screen TV (like a Zapper, R.O.B. won't be able to see the flashes on a flat screen) you might be able to use a RetroUSB.com NES controller adapter to get the whole thing to work.

Perhaps if you managed to hack the Gyromite rom to get on the wii, then used a NES to Wii adapter to get the controller attached, and then put the whole setup on a CRT TV, then it may work.

The moral is, don't **** with Uncle Tim when he's been drinking!
you could just install it on the ehem homebrew channel to test it out, but as long as you don't have a newer tv and have that retro thing it would work just fine.
This is random, but I'm so pissed that I'm no longer able to play Gumshoe. Nintendo really should rig something up with the Wiimote for some VC zapper games. I doubt they'd ever apply that to Gyromite, though.
Gyromite and Stack-up have a cool presentation, too. They should revive that series. They could make it into some kind of high-tech puzzle game like Portals or something.
