    Default WTB: Saturn Mod Chip

Just found a model 2 Saturn on the cheap so now I'm looking for a modchip to put in it. I remember someone was selling a bunch of them in the forums here a while ago dirt cheap but I can't remember who it was.

Hmmm might have been me, I had quite a few laying around that I was selling awhile ago, I'm down to my last one though and I plan on keeping that one for myself. Racketboy is where I got them from (I bought a lot so I got a deal). http://www.racketboy.com/store/

He doesn't have any in his store (from what I can tell), but if you e-mail him I'm sure he'll have something laying around.

Was this the same chip you bought?:

    http://www.racketboy.com/saturn-modchip/

Says that they're in stock but I thought the ones you were selling were a lot cheaper than this.

They went up in price highly as he said that is his last batch and will not be getting anymore. I just got one from here they are slightly cheaper and better build than the Racketboy chips as that is the chip I had last time.

Get one before they are gone.

Yeah they were a lot cheaper (I think I was selling them for $10 and he was selling them for $15 on his site and I got them from like $11 or something), plus I think I was either selling them at cost or a small loss since I just didn't want them laying around anymore.

With mod-chips you always want to hop on a good deal and get an extra one. I just recently had to rebuy a gamecube modchip that 2 years ago was $9 and I had to pay almost $30 since no one else carried or stocked it anymore.

When racketboy is out of saturn mod chips it'll be fun finding them again in the future.

Are you talking about a XenoGC? If so they are still $9 and I can show you where as I got one last week as I got a GC for free and I figured I would chip the beast as the good GC games still fetch a nice price. I mean $40 for MKD no thank you!!

Dude, tell me too! I'd love to get my Gamecube modded

I'm also looking for a model 2 Saturn modchip, provided I can actually verify that the second Saturn I bought works fine.

So long as it is a round button Saturn that site I posted above that Saturn chip will work. And sorry the GC chips went up to $14 but still not bad.

And it ships from the US as well. Took 5 days to get it after I ordered and even gave me 2 free mini dvd-rs!!

Ugh, I can't believe they jumped up in price that much in so little time. Guess I have to bite the bullet and buy a $40 chip before all Saturn mod chips become extinct.

BTW, when playing imports on a modded Saturn, the ISO's still have to be patched, right? Only US games can be burned and played without any special tweaking?

The chip I listed above cost less than $40 and you can get an Action Replay that will allow imports to be played without patching. It will also allow you to play the games that need either the 4 or 1 mb ram card to play.

$19 bucks NiB and you can't find one anywhere else that cheap.

Are you talking about that robbweb.clara.co.uk site? All the image links are broken and it looks like it hasn't been updated in ages. Are they still in business?

Yep I just got one from him last week. He has an updated site but it is jsut a idfferent name here you go and get that Action Replay because some of the best games require either a 4mb cart or a 1mb cart and if it is an import you can't add a import cart and a RAM cart at the same time unless you have one of these. They normally go for $25-40.

There is his updated site. He is a great guy I just ordered a NES scart cable form him last night. And here is the main site.

To play imports you either have to use a program (it's very easy) to change the region code and then burn it or like what's mentioned above just use a cart (i have one, but its not an action replay one) and it'll allow you to play whatever region.

You actually don't need a mod-chip for a saturn if you want to do the manual swap, but it's very difficult to pull off (well once you get it figured out it's not that hard, but always annoying). The saturn goes to the end of the disc reads the security sectors then goes back to the beginning and reads the disc. If you have any retail disc you have to listen for it to scan to the end of the disc read it and as soon as it's done and starting to go back to beginning just pop out the retail disc and pop in your burned disc really fast (you have to rig the open slot so the system doesn't know the disc tray is open). It's hard to get the hang of and given how easy a saturn mod chip modification is to do I wouldn't do it, but that option is always there.

Or there a switched and switchless mods for regions. I myself use the switchless mod as it is nice to just press reset to change the region that wa there is no patching of images.

Well I managed to get one of those Racketboy chips from someone else for $20 shipped. I never soldered anything before though, so I'm kind of nervous about the install and would rather pay someone to do it. Anybody here do Saturn mods?

Make sure your Model 2 isn't a Sanyo drive/PC Trap Board unit. Otherwise, it's easy enough to do yourself. If you don't want to solder, just use some electrical tape to secure the signal wire connection. It may come loose if it gets jostled around a lot but, it should work fine.

Disconnect the drive ribbon from mobo slot
Plug the ribbon into the slot on the chip
Plug the chip into the ribbon slot on the mobo
Connect the signal wire or use a solder bridge
    Done!
