Default Just got a sweet new TV for the old consoles! L@@K!

Its a 1992 Sony Trinitron XBR. What is weird is there are no speakers built into the TV, but instead a subwoofer that sits on top of the tv backing, and 2 satellite speakers. They all plug into the back of the TV, it has a built in AMP.

    Check it out!

Finally, I can use the Virtua Cop guns! Bye Bye old HDTV!

I haven't seen one like that either.

The speakers are kind of funky looking, but it is retro! Certainly a nice find.

very nice. You cant beat a sony CRT for old school gaming. I have one (though it was built in 03) that is fantastic. Sadly I don't use it much (someone else hogs it) I use a 57in hitachi crt and a 19 inch sony crt (old as hell) and then I technically own a new sony LCD 32in but again someone else uses it. Picture wise I haven't been impressed with anything besides sony crts (including for big screens)

Cool tv. I really don't play light gun games much but if I try on my lcd and it doesn't work, then I might consider a small 19 incher for such games.

    Nice!

I seem to see more and more of these old TV's being purchased by classic gamers

It is amazing just how much you CAN'T have with newer sets with using older consoles. I had a pretty nice JVC with a completely horrible RF amplifier. I now use a Sanyo I purchased a few years back at Walmart I think (40 inch) and it is great. The RF is fantastic and it is a good ol' fashion box.

I will forever remain afraid of Sony Trinitrons. We bought a 36" one in 1999, by 2003 the picture tube was showing a nice green hue on everything and by 2005 the tv began blinking black over and over again. It started out slow then became faster and faster. By the time we replaced it in October 06, it would blink on average ever 3-5 seconds. No matter what, Im going to stick with my old 1985 RCA Colortrak wood panel console tv. lol.

So... your going to condemn an ENTIRE line over one defective product?

God, I HATE it when people do this.

I'd like to think I keep an open mind.

As it is, I have had four HP computers (two laptops and two desktops) in the last 3 or less years because they keep dieing on me. Also while those computers where working, they all would spend quite a large amount of time at geek squad for random reasons.

But, if you would ask me if I was up to buying a HP computer... Yea I'd buy one if it will fit my purpose. I'd be more weary.. but not closed off to the possibility..

    Anyway, I digress..

NICE FIND THERE! I think I have one my friend is supposed to fix for me some time or another (just needs a new sound board old one got corrupted). It is a 1992 model with external speakers and the whole bit..

Let me ask one thing about this TV.. does it have Picture in Picture?

Hmm, I wonder if anyone around here collects retro TVs.

    That'd be something.

Let me rephrase what I said. I will forever be afraid of *newer* trinitrons due to their known decline in quality. I normally dont condemn an entire line of products until I have several bad experiences.

Funny thing is, I am in the same boat with HP computers. (yet our second computer, from 1996, an original HP Pavilion, is the only old computer we have left that still works) I will probably think twice before buying HP again. (Im on #4 I believe in the last 5 years)

I agree with that logic.. But still I wouldn't put them down mind you, my parents have a 36 inch Trinitron that has worked beautifully since the day we got it.

And I as far as HP computers go.. I pretty much see a decline in quality after the P4 era...

It seems that most computer brands have been declining lately. I guess then everyone has had good experiences and bad experiences thus making it really truly impossible to say that a whole brand is horrible. That is unless its the IBM Deskstar hard disk drive... haha.

That's pretty darn cool. I'd never have the room for it however. Maybe one or two classic sets, but that's it.

People collect a variety of things. Not to get too off topic, but I once knew someone who collected and restored old cash registers!

Ive only got 2 CRT Sets, a 1980 Zenith Space Command, and the Sony. So confusion I get whenever there is a power outage is hilarious. The Zenith is on wheels with a battery backup on it and a NES. I just drag it outside onto the porch and start playing. It does draw attention!

omg look what just popped up on craigslist. Sony Trinitron 80s model built into an oak cabinet with speakers. This one would rule if you dont have an entertainment center.

I remember as a kid dreaming of owning a Sony Trinitron one day. I have a 35 inch Trinitron now and it looks fantastic.
