I sold Phantasy Star Online Episode I&II at the store and it came back.
Can you play this game online anymore? Does it have any value at all?

Why would you sell PSO 1 and 2? It's an amazing game. Since it's also the original XBOX you're talking about then you could also add that it's possibly the best game on the system depending on your preference.
I wouldn't know if it still has online, but you can still play multiplayer on the same console. If only they rerelease PSO 1 and 2 for the PSP. No fees and no splitscreen when playing multiplayer(I think the GC version had splitscreen when playing multiplayer on the same console.) I doubt this will ever happen though.

Buyatari owns several game stores.
The servers for the xbox version were shutdown last year some time. If i recall correctly, the singleplayer was just a training mode for the online mode. Worthless, not exactly; but the value is a lot less then it would be otherwise. I doubt there's much of a market for it.
You mean you can't play single player or multiplayer on the XBOX version without playing online?
I've never owned the game for XBOX as I owned the GC version. I just assumed it'd be the same.
You can play the entire game offline single player, but some of the bosses are pretty much impossible by yourself unless you're willing to do a LOT of grinding to try and get your character to a high enough level.
Not sure about offline multiplayer though, I've never tried that out.
The requirement of having Xbox Live just to play the stupid thing is what made me get the GameCube version instead. I never play games online (I am of the opinion that most of humanity heartily suck and therefore I don't want to interact with them in any way) so what would be the point of getting Live just to play one game in single player mode? I had no problem with buying the 'upgrade' PSO 1 & 2 Plus version for the GC when it came out, even though it only added a couple missions at most.
Doesn't matter what version of pso you have xbox,gc,dc or pc sega shut down the server years ago for them.Still you can play the gc,dc and pc version on a private server hosted by this site for free http://www.schtserv.com/ i got plans to play the gc pso again i even have the bba as well i just need to get a router next.
I can't speak for the Xbox version, but I enjoyed the GCN version to death, and I never played it online. I just had a good friend that I played with on the weekends, and we would just smash things up and have a great time.
The game is worth its weight in gold if you are into that sort of a thing. I guess your customer was either expecting to play it online or it just wasn't his/her cup of tea. :/
The drugs you use must be laced with some pretty potent stuff. PSO isn't even in the top 25 best Xbox games, let alone the top 5. And that includes if you are an rpg fan.
Back to the topic, as a demo disc collector of many systems, I can tell you that many beta disc that no longer operate(on the PS2 or Xbox for instance) can still sell for $5-20 a piece. So I wouldn't label PSO worthless just yet.

A Live account is required to even play at all, however, you can play offline. You just need to have Xbox Live, you don't need to connect to it.
