Some of the reviews I've been reading complain about long load times, "blurred sprites" and so forth. Has anyone played it? Would it be better to just pick up the Sega Saturn imports for a few of the games?

I paid about $13 shipped for it on Amazon when it was a deal of the day, but I haven't played it yet so I don't really know. I will say $13 was a decent price as far as I was concerned.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.
Yes, is that bad. I have not been able to play it properly because of the loading, which is bloddy annoying. About the sprites, yes that's true, they look so blurry. Get yourself a Saturn with a pro-action replay and the KoF collection, '94 and '98 are missing but '95 is so fucking perfect, '96 and '97 have this loading but you can tolerate it.
i say emulate them w/ mame on your pc.... (or modded xbox?).
To those that don't own the actual hardware, MAME is the best way to go (or Saturn for 95-97). I've played the Orochi Saga port on PS2 and it sucks major ass. The controls are crap, and I would swear that the load times are worse than the Neo-Geo CD versions.
Since there isn't a January NAVA event, I may bring my Neo + Commodore monitor + KOF 98 to February's event.
"You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world."
I think it's perfectly fine. It's 5 neo geo games for 15 bucks - a total steal. The only real complaint anyone could possibly have against it is the oddball announcer glitch here and there and the lack of arranged tunes.
As to the saturn ones, go nuts, if you want to pay more money for versions with missing animation frames. May as well just get the Japanese Orochi collection (without 94 and 98) if you're going to import anything; closer to the arcade version for 95-97 than Saturn, and has arranged music.

Controls are the biggest issue, IMO. I can stand a longer than normal load time, but when I can't even do a full Deadly Flower chain 1/5 times due to the chains never syncing, it's a big issue.
I agree, for the money and a casual fighter fan, they are fine. If anything, you can play these and see if you want to shell out the dough and get them down the road on the Neo Geo AES/MVS/Saturn. If you are a hardcore player and notice little details or dont want any inferior version of a video game, then dont get it. For me personally, they just play fine...but I am only a casual player when it comes to these.
What I should do is fire up my KOF 94 on my AES and play on that and compare it to this collection. Either way, for $15 you cant go wrong even if it has issues.

Hmm, not a bad idea. Thanks. I'll probably get the collection anyways for 94 and 98, and if the issues bother me that bad I'll check into the PS2 import.
So it seems like Digital Eclipse or whoever is to blame for these issues correct? And the Fatal Fury collections aren't as bad due to them being a straight port of the japanese collections? How are things looking for the Samurai Shodown collection? Is it a Digital Eclipse release?
Ack, I guess I meant Terminal Reality, sorry.
I'm weird, I like owning the games. Can't help it. But I do play them on my PC with friends online.
Import the Japanese version, it was done by the same guys who did the Fatal Fury, World Heroes and Art of Fighting collections, not those fuckheads from Terminal Reality.
It's missing KOF 94, but you can probably pick up Re-Bout for cheap, too.
Edit:
Samsho Anthology's Japanese version is good. But the US version is going to have more games, and that reeks of Terminal Reality getting their dirty hands involved, so I'm going to avoid it too.
You should modify the title of the thread to be more specific. Which version are you referring to, PlayStation 2, PSP, or Wii?
So far, the Wii version has been receiving the highest scores, while the PSP version has been receiving the lowest scores...so which version are you referring to?
Thanks! According to the review on Thunderbolt Games:
"there is one striking difference that comes with the Wii version: the lack of glitches. The PS2 version was infested with ridiculously long loading times, choppy announcer voiceovers, and control problems galore. Nearly all of that has been fixed on the Wii; aside from the occasional truncated statement, the announcers do their jobs well. The loading time is practically non-existent, which means you can get right to the fighting without having to stare at a blank screen for several seconds."
If you own a Wii, it seems like that's the version to get.
You're right, the reviewer recommends the Wii Classic Controller, but an arcade stick would be even better! How about these:
Amazon - Wii Fighting Stick by Hori ($44)
Amazon - The Shaft Wii Arcade Joystick by Overline Gaming ($30)
EDIT: By the way, I've been looking at screen shots from the different versions and as far as I can tell, the graphics in all of them have been filtered to reduce pixelation. If that's really the case, that's disappointing. I like the old pixelated 2D graphics. Is there an option to disable the filtering?

I didn't realize the PS2 version was that bad. I'll still be picking it up, though...
I'd recommend the Hori stick over the shaft. Unless, you know, you'd like to get the shaft.
It feels much like the dreamcast stick. Not as heavy, but the stick and buttons are very similar.
