Is it worth buying non-functioning Cabs?

I have found these locally. I have not been to see them. I was wondering if either is worth the price, and what would I be looking into as far as repairs go? Just curious if this is a project for a potential first time cabinet owner?

It depends on the cab. If they're games you're interested in, go look at em. I bought a "non-working" Neo Geo 6 slot cab one time for $200. The power supply was unplugged inside. That was the only thing wrong with it. Ended up making like $600 on it and I kept the carts I wanted and played it for a year. Most of the time, repairs are more complicated than that (bad monitor, bad board, wiring issues, etc) but you never know.

Those say as is working when moved...they might still be working. They're not exactly high demand games, but for that price if they're ones you want for yourself, you're not taking much of a hit. Neither one is JAMMA though, so you can only put certain other games in them without rewiring. It really depends on what you want.

Without seeing the games, it's impossible to say what might be wrong with them, if anything. If they're in decent shape or need some minor repairs, at $100 they're probably already long gone. If they're still available, check them out and see which game(s) interest you. I'd probably grab the Toki/DK cab and convert it back into a dedicated DK machine, but YMMV.

This place is only open on weekends and is in a fairly small town, so I feel good about the availability right now. I think I will take a trip out and see what the cabs look like. Maybe I can get a glance inside them. Should I end up with one though, beware that I will be asking many questions of you guys. If anyone else has any other advice about this be sure to share, and thanks again.

After going to an arcade auction I don't think I'd ever pay more than $100 for a non-working cabinet. Many working good condition games were selling for that. Most non-working ones were going for less than $50. Of course it depends on what it is.

Also, how good are you at electronics? That could go a long way in determining how much a broken one would be worth to you.

Unless those games are in their original dedicated cabinets, they really aren't worth anything.
Generic cabs and conversions aren't worth the space they take up unless they're in very good shape and are functional.

So I went and looked at these cabs sunday. I think they will be sitting in that consignment shop for a long time to come. I could not see them getting much of anything for them. The Toki cab is actually broken in a major way (at least one whole side would need to be replaced), both machines have obviously experienced a serious amount of abuse and even looked like they had been used as ash trays. Maybe next time...
