Default PS2 modification (and a possible request)

I just want to know a few things about the PS2's import capabilities.

1: Is it easier to dissect and mod an older model, or is it easier for one of the new slimline varieties?

2: Are there any specific PS1 or PS2 titles that are somehow incompatible with a modded system? I think I recall a friend having trouble with Strider 2 on a modded PS1 due to some region lockout crap Sony or Capcom rigged up.

3: How long does it take on average to mod either model?

4: Is anyone here skilled enough to mod a PS2? I'm just curious. It's something I may be able to do in the future, but it may take a while to properly arrange.
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

I've heard that it's quite a bit easier to pick up a swap disc, especially if you have the slim model, but I don't have any idea about how good the compatibility on those is.

If you can get a fat ps2 and network adapter, do what Snow Kitty says. If not, get a swap lid. Unless you are really good at soldering, it can be a pain to do. It took me about 2-3 hours to put my chip into a slim (crystal chip 2.0, about 19 wires in total). The places you have to solder to are pretty small. I had to use a magnifying glass and flux to get it right. Very tedious and would probably not do it again You also have to make sure the chip works with the version ps2 you have and find software for it.

If you just want to play imports, a mod chip isnt worth it.

Swap magic would be VERY easy to use on a slim, and seeing as how they don't make the large models any more that may be what you want to do.
