Default How much is a yellow Legend of Zelda test cartridge worth?

    Hi there,

about 6 years ago I bought a yellow Legend of Zelda test cartridge. Since then I've become less of a videogame collector and because of financial reasons I'm looking to sell it again. I have however no idea how much it's worth now, could any of you help me set a price? Might anyone here be interested in buying it? I remember that the person I bought it from had previously set his auction on Ebay, where it was deleted because Ebay didn't buy that a yellow LoZ cartridge was so rare. I rather wouldn't let that happen to me either does anyone have any experience with Ebay and rare sells? Is it even worth trying to put it up there?

    Thanks for any responses.

For the 6 years I've owned it it has always been inside a plastic casing, so it never got damaged. When I received it the label was unfortunately already a little damaged, there is some wear and tear on three corners. I'll get a picture up as soon as I get my SD card reader.

The better part of $600 is a lot though, wasn't expecting a price that high!

I don't know why they were yellow, I do know that the yellow cartridges were test cartridges used at Nintendo Maintenance (?) stores to check if a NES was working or not. They were never sold to the public and thus not many of them exist.

I wouldn't expect $600 for it, although they have gone for that high once or twice in the past. There hasn't been one up at open auction for quite some time, so you may very well see a price up there for it.

If you're looking to sell, I don't think you'll have any trouble selling it for $400+. I have 7 test carts and I'd sell any one of them for $200 a piece except my Zelda, that one stays on the shelf. With the drought of them recently I'd be curious to find out what it ends for.

If you stick it on EBay with an $800 BIN with a best offer option you can test the waters on what you can expect to get for it. Contact Gamesniped and get it featured to see a little more traffic on your auction.

Thanks for the Gamesniped tip, that's a good one. Wouldn't have thought of that myself!

On the cart is the Legend of Zelda (NES) game, as far as I know it works perfectly. It's NTSC and I've only got a PAL NES so I've never tried it out, but the person I bought it from said it was in working state and I have no reason not to believe him.

Gamesniped found you. Gamesniped is everywhere, knows everything and likes dirty socks.

I'd expect around 400 usd for that cart. Tell me when you put that on eBay and it will be featured in engrish.

Well I say it's weird that all the yellow Zelda carts I've seen so far (three or four with yours) look like the label's been (badly) taken off a normal cart and (badly) glued to a yellow cart. But I'm sure I must be missing something.

The back of all Zelda test carts have a sticker, but without any stamped number on it. I don't know how you'd go about faking something like that.

The reason they tend to be beat up is because of where they come from: NES Test Centers. Those guys could give two shits if the labels stayed in good shape or not.

Also, a Zelda test cart was just found on NA and it appears to be in near mint condition.

The LoZ test cart has "A sticker, but without any stamped number on it" as previously stated. Also, you would have to use a yellow doner test cart (unless you know a place willing to make yellow NES cart molds on the cheap . . .), and it wouldn't be cost effective. I have yet to see one Yellow LoZ test cart that has been suspected of being a reproduction. It's too much work for too little of a profit.
