Are eBay prices low lately?

Is it me or is it a good time to buy and a bad time to sell.

Premium items have more consistent pricing, but 2600 carts in general (the ones below $75) are selling at half what I'm used to seeing them at.

I was going to sell some titles that I have in triplicate, but then I realized I wouldn't make the $1-$3 that I spend on them back. No point even bothering. Best to wait until Xmas or whatever.

I know, I know, eBay is full of seasonal variation.

I just can't help but think that the turmoil of the world and our economy makes for less spenders.

Actually, I've noticed that bid prices have come WAY down. Not just vid games, but books, board games, collectibles, comics, you name it. And, for what it's worth, I understand that the porn bids are dropping as well. They'll go even lower once Paypal stops allowing folks to pay for porn with it.

They reported an incredibly high amount of fraud with porn purchases.

This is a normal trend for video game prices on eBay. They usually plummet during the summer months, and raise again in the fall/winter. I try to do the majority of my eBay purchases during the summer for that reason.

As we previously announced, PayPal has updated its Acceptable Use Policy for buying and selling adult items on eBay. After June 12, 2003 (one month from today), members in the Mature Audiences category will no longer be able to use PayPal to complete transactions. This modification to PayPal's policy in Mature Audiences is consistent with its new policy to no longer process payments for adult items anywhere on the Internet.

While PayPal is owned by eBay, it is a different business with different business needs. PayPal must find the right balance between serving its community while minimizing financial risk. PayPal management feels that exiting the adult business with a clear and consistent policy is the best decision for its business.

Yup, it's gonna happen. What I heard was that most of the Paypal charge-backs and disputed payments were for adult items. Lotsa porn sellers just aren't sending their stuff out and the buyers are pissed. On the other side, someone gets their porn, dubs it, then demands their money back from Paypal after returning it. It's been a huge headache, I guess.

Also, it's in keeping with making the Adult Listings as customer-unfriendly as possible so they can one day drop it completely. It was important to bring in business to eBay in The Early Days, but now it just mars eBay's otherwise-family-friendly image.

If I were to ever buy porn I'd like to have the protection of Paypal. If they think the fraud was there with Paypal what happens when its no longer an option? Porn fraud will now triple.

This is treading dangerously towards paypal no longer being a simple transaction service, though, and becoming a service that dictates what you can and cannot buy with their service. Yeah I have been noticing that too. The NES games have come down some, I think everyone blew their wad when dl-collectibles was selling his collection.
