Default Lack of PS1 classics on the PS3

Not sure if this has been started yet or not, sorry if it has!!

Anyways....I just got a PSP recently and love the idea of being able to bring my favorite PS1 classics anywhere I go! However....I found that there is NOT enough for download! The thought of games like Silent Hill or FF7 or MGS wherever I go is sweeeeet!

Not sure if many of you have seen this, or will even do anything, but if you think there should be more available to download via PSN, then sign http://www.petitiononline.com/PSoneP...tion-sign.html

Online petitions never accomplish anything. I agree that there should be more PSX games on PSN, but this won't work. You should look into installing custom firmware on your PSP and just put your own PSX games on the memory stick.

Yeah I figured it might not do much. If you look at the Japan PSN, they have 3x the amount of classics.

We've got a few excellent games available: Castlevania Chronicles and Suikoden are worth the six bucks apiece just for the novelty of not spending a hundred bucks to own them. Jumping Flash is rad, you've got your Symphony of the Night, Syphon Filter 3, and Street Fighter Alpha...

    ... That's pretty much it, I guess.

I have a theory: we can blame the ESRB. According to various sources(1UP, Gamasutra, and ProgrammingAce), getting a game rated by the ESRB costs anywhere from fifteen grand to eighty grand. You'd have to sell quite a few copies of your game in order to recoup that cost alone, never mind the work that goes into the digital manuals and so on.

I don't know what the Japanese equivalent of the ESRB charges, but the Japanese side of Sony and Nintendo are kicking ass with their DLC services. I just bought a Wii, and was a little disappointed with the number of VC releases so far.

The PS1 classic selection is pretty weak, it has to be said- say what you want about Microsoft, at least they knew 'opular games = profit' and stuck the likes of Halo and San Andreas on there (I ffor one honestly didn't see the latter one coming, hence my kudos). Kula World is the only classic I own, and that's inexplicably a Euro exclusive. It's almost as if Sony would be embarrassed to go 'here, have FF7, Silent Hill, MGS and Resident Evil 2, we don't mind'.

And shed a tear for us poor Europeans- not having Suikoden or the Castlevania games yet (well, aside from SotN on 360, anyway )

Don't forget Wild Arms. Great game. At one point in history, it was the best RPG on the PS1 (before FF7 hit).

Other than that though, you're right.

Wow, I don't see the need in complaining about PSX downloads honestly. I think they have been doing a pretty good job with their selections, sans a couple titles.

I don't know about you but I don't have the $$ to download them all anyway. They are at least listening to fans and brought Suikoden and CC, shows that they are working on it and atm they are going in the right direction, no need to derail a good thing.

They need to keep going the way they are atm....good obscure titles.

Remake Legend of Dragoon with awesome graphics. I'd love that.

    Japan's official catalog dwarfs ours.

Sony doesn't actually own any of those games. This is probably just a case of third parties being less than enthusiastic.

That may not explain the lack of Parappa, Colony Wars, WipEout XL/3, Intelligent Qube, etc., but it is true that Sony's own properties are at least decently represented.

A remake of legend of dragoon that is actually playable would be great - stupid loading times.

Suikoden for 6 bucks was a great addition!

If Sony and Capcom were smart, they'd release Resident Evil 1-3 on the PSN before Resident Evil 5 comes out, they'd surely make a killing in sales. They're also taking their sweet ass time releasing Final Fantasy 7, I'm surprised they didn't do so before the release of Crisis Core, so maybe they'll do that before the Advent Children Blu-Ray release.

Why not just rip your own games?

The download service is great for picking up hard to find titles cheap, but if you want to play Metal Gear on your PSP, then play it. What's stopping you?

I did think about that, but if you look at Japans list, they already have Resident Evil 1-3, MGS and a lot more available to download. So whats the hold up??

My question, why was Syphon Filter 2 removed from the store?

I love their Japanese store. All 3 Resident Evil games? Dino Crisis? Last Blade? Any KOF game almost? Samurai Shodown games? Puzzle Bobble? Metal Slug 1 or Metal Slug X? Brilliant.
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I've played all three of those on my PSP. CFW for the WIN!!

Seriously, I've got one model 1001 that's modded with custom firmware, and a model 2001 that I keep up-to-date with Sony's official firmware, and I can enjoy the best of both worlds... for the low $ cost of a used PSP nowadays, I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it - having nearly all my PSX games available to me for portable play is a wonderful thing... I even played FFVIII to completion on my PSP, though it took some swapping of two different *.PBP files generated from my discs using different ID numbers, but it wasn't too painful - worth it to play through the game on the go!

I don't think it was ever there in the North American store.

You're right, it was Jet Moto 3 that was.

Wow. I'd like to hear confirmation on this. Back in like 2000-2002, we would just put together a VHS tape of a playthrough of the game to send to the ESRB, and they would approve it based on that. I never would have thought having someone watch video tapes would cost that much. Does the ESRB now have their own pre-release hardware and staff to play through it like some kind of third party QA organization?
