Yeah, my goodwill takes returns as well. You have to have the original price sticker on and receipt, of course, but they rarely ever even ask why. Sometimes they ask if it is broken, and I think they just chuck it if it is. Has come in very handy from time to time, like when I can't remember if I have a certain game.
Yeah, it's a regional thing. My local Goodwills accept returns for store credit, with the exception of books, new items, and items that have a "as-is, no returns" note on the receipt.
I bought Tetris (GB, loose) for 3.99 yesterday. Maybe overpaid by a buck or two but I felt silly having an original GB but no Tetris.
And my local Sears is basically a tiny little "Authorized Retail Center" (i.e. franchise) that doesn't carry games. I can think of four other full-on mall Sears in the area but they're each 30-40 miles away, in four different directions.
Updated my finds blog with my crazy turbo duo cib and 36 games find check it our if you want.

my feedback! http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56075
I'm in Maine and every Goodwill I've ever been to (in state) allows returns for up to 7 days. You need to have the price tag on the item and the original receipt.
The way they handle returns is that you get reimbursed based on the original payment method. So if you paid by credit/debit card, they swipe your card again and put the balance back on. But if you paid by check or cash, they open the register and hand over your balance.
So I did get my money back on the controller and I told them the truth, which is that it was useless to me without the breakaway cable. My suggestion to the clerk was that they could easily put it back out for sale, assuming someone who buys it has a cable or goes through the trouble of getting one. Because I never verified it wasn't working, since I didn't get an opportunity to test it period.
Oh, and speaking of Sears, the closest Sears store to me stopped selling video games over 2 years ago. Right around the time they did, they were still sporting $40 sealed copies of PS1's Madden 2005, FIFA 2005 and NFL Gameday 2005.
I know those PS1 versions of the games listed probably look like shit and play like shit, but I always thought they'd be cool to have. Primarily to get ahold of some late day PS1 stuff and me being a fan of sports games. But friggin' Sears wouldn't drop the price, I kept on going back week after week and one day they were gone without the hint of a price drop or an explanation from the clueless clerk as to where they might have gone.
Went back for a few more blu-rays. Again, all new sealed.
Lost season 4 $20
Hancock $10
The pirates of the Caribbean at worlds end $10
The pirates of the Caribbean dead mans chest $10
All heading to the bay tomorrow.
I feel ashamed.
I bought... American Idol for the PS2.
This also means that I own every single American Idol game for the system (this one and both Karaoke Revolutions).
... *cries tears of shame*
I had a neat set of finds today. Still thinking about going back for that sealed "promotional sample" of Windows 2000 ($4).
$2/ea
Half-Life (CD key is written on the back of the front insert)
Shannara (DOS/Win3.1-95) - I have no idea how this plays, but it looked neat
After Dark Classic - Flying Toasters FTW, this completes my retro DOS machine
A stack of 45s - $5 - might list these over in the "Last CD..." thread
Tapes - Information Society, Duran Duran, Haddaway, Thompson Twins - $0.49/ea
Boxed X-Wing (floppy version) no manual, but with reg card, now-defunct ISP ads, etc - $5
...but I found a few extras in the box!
Hero's Quest I: So You Want to Be a Hero
Lemmings
"Wizardworks Challenge Pack for Windows - Program Disk"
Disk 11 of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack - Anybody know how many of these there were?
A disk labeled "Doug - DOS"
But at the bottom of the box was the most awesome thing that I have ever laid eyes on:
I wish I had more Adventurer issues, I know I had three or four at one point but all I can find is the Afterlife cover one.
my sears doesn't seem to have anything marked down.... went through everything was still on the shelf and no sale signs or anything up :>
Well guys it has finally happened - I know have in my possession a complete Sin & Punishment for the Nintendo 64. For almost four years I have been looking for this game, waiting for an opportunity to acquire it. My search came to fruition several days ago in this very thread. theChad posted about finding the game at a pawn shop and I hurried to PM him about getting it. He found some things on my list and we traded. I come home to find a box on my doorstep and guess what it was?
My #1 Most Wanted Game. In my very hands. YES!

Okay, I checked my Sears and had some pretty good luck. On my first walkthrough, I found these:
Armored Core 4 (PS3) - $4.97
F1 Championship Edition (PS3) - $4.97
Pinball - Gottlieb Edition (PSP) - $4.97
Gun (Xbox) - $4.97
Blinx 2 (Xbox ) - $3.97
Battalion Wars II (Wii) - $4.97
Gunstar Heroes (GBA) - $4.97
Dave Mirra BMX (GBA) - $1.97
Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends (GBA) - $1.97
Spy Hunter/Super Sprint (GBA) - $.97
Millipede/Super Breakout/Lunar Lander (GBA) - $.97
I then walked the length of the mall to the CGX where I got a nice condition Cowboys vs. 49ers for the Sega CD for $3.00.
After browsing Game Stop and Barnes and Noble, I decided to double check Sears and came away with this group:
Sopranos (PS2) -$1.97
Dragonquest Monsters - Joker (DS) - $4.97
Drake and Josh (GBA) - $1.97
James Pond (GBA) - $1.97
PS2 Three-Pack - Dai Senryaku VII, King of Fighters XI, Triggerman - $19.99
This second set came to around $33 with tax and the lady asked me if I wanted to apply for a Sears card to save $15.00, not 15%! I did, and was approved, so my total was $18 for the stuff inthe second picture. All in all, this stuff cost me under $60.

Theres a few Sears Home Essentials shops by me that seem to be closing, I'll have to check them out tomorrow. You guys that have gotten stuff at Sears, how much is generally remaining?
Ditto. I was about to ask all the people that got stuff from Sears if it were marked down on the item itself or if it were in a discounted bin marked "$5 and under". The above poster has stuff marked down on his items but others who posted on the last page had one price marked on their games but said they got them for cheaper. The only cheap game I found was Spy Hunter: Nowhere To Run for PS2 at $4.95. But it wasn't even a pink clerance tag, it was a normal white one.
That was my experience with my local Sears today. On Wednesday I'm going to check out a Sears thats quite a ways from my house but I merchandised there before. The last time I was there I got two Metroid Prime Gamecube bundles(for $24.99 a piece) and some other cheap ass games. But this was last June or July.

Still quite a bit at mine, including lots of stuff in the $9.97 range that I wasn't prepared to buy today. Lots of GBA stuff, lots and lots of PS2 stuff, but I really don't collect too much for that one, just really good deals. They did have 2 more copies of the Armored Core 4, more of the F1, but I got the last of most of what I found.

That doesn't mean that the games won't ring up at the clearance price. It definitely pays to ask an employee to test scan titles you are interested in. The Battalion Wars 2 I bought Saturday was still locked in the showcase and priced at $39.99. It rang up $4.97. I bought Viewtiful Joe today for .97 but it was still marked $4.97. Best advice I can give is to scan the posts here and over at CAG to get an idea of what clearance titles you want and then go to every Sears close to you and ask an employee to check the prices on those titles. Also it pays to look around the electronics department thoroughly. The store close to me has an aisle with a locked showcase, a rolling rack with games and a clearance bin. These were all separate from each other and I found good deals in all three spots.
