Default Gamecube games released on wii have new play control?

I got this link via email today:

    http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/...wii_11212.html

Fun and challenging gameplay will delight a whole new generation, while some additional features will excite existing Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin fans.
Apparently you can use the wiimote to control the re-released Pikmin and Mario Tennis. Provided the price point is reasonable, this is a wonderful way to breathe new life into older games. BTW, sorry if this is a repost, I searched but didn't find anything.

The price point is $30, but based on the reviews of the Japanese versions, they may not be worth repurchasing if you already own them. The Wii controls don't necessarily improve some games, although I understand Pikmin is more fun with the ability to use the Wiimote.

I believe that Metroid Prime 1 & 2 are also getting the same treatment. Which is great if you like the control system in Prime 3, I suppose.

They used "NEW PLAY CONTROL!" ten times in that article. How about "NEW GAMES!" instead?

Or more good VC releases. Or if you're going to keep rehashing old titles how about VC games with online play?

Mario Tennis has been selling well in Japan, despite what the reviews are saying. DK Jungle Beat and Pikmin are also available there, with the two Metroid Prime games, Chibi Robo, and Pikmin 2 coming later this year.

Maybe Nintendo thinks that re-releasing popular GC games will help attract "core" gamers to the Wii, though I would think that any "core" gamer that already owns these games isn't going to bother buying them again just for a Wii Remote control scheme, though some games like Jungle Beat do have additional content that has been added to the game. Personally, I'd prefer to see new games released, instead of a port of a game I've already played.

$30 is too high. The "new play control" would be a good gimmick for downloadable games. Have them be about $15 and it would be a much more attractive purchase. But then the Wii would have to have some sort of real storage solution.

Nintendo will probably sell enough of these slightly modified games to make it worthwile for them. It is kind of frustrating to see them drag their heels on new game stuff.

I didn't see this addressed (sorry if it was):

Will these wii-enhanced games play on a Gamecube? (without the wii control, of course)

This is good news for me because I missed out on Pikmin, Chibi Robo, and DK Jungle Beat last generation. I think the $30 price is great too, especially considering these are highly-rated games...although $20 would be even better.

I'd love a Wii Wheel updated version of Burnout 2, but that will never happen.

Regarding Wave Race, Wii Sports Resort will include a MotionPlus-enhanced jet ski racing game. That's as close as we're going to get for now.

I doubt they would do melee, since Brawl is out. Fire Emblam would work well, Odama maybe too.

This reminds me of Microsoft rereleasing XBox originals via Xbox live at a price point of more than what you'd pay in stores. My opinion for Microsoft and Nintendo is that, if you are going to try and make money off of old titles, atleast add something new to the mix. Like another poster said, add online play to all the old games. That would atleast give people a reason to buy them again.

Only for some of the games, and even then the pricing scheme was generally fair. The games that were more expensive were just because they were part of the "best of Platinum Hits" line or something similar, or people were comparing the prices to used copies (which is apples to oranges). They did a pretty slam up job of promoting niche titles that never really found the attention that they deserved, too.

As far as these wii rereleases go, I'm all about a release of Metroid Prime that doesn't play like shit. The original control scheme was awful and restrictive.

Nintendo is: updated controls. Whether or not that's a good thing, I'll have to wait and see.

Not to mention widescreen and progressive scan support for the titles that didn't have that previousily.

They're doing plenty to justify selling these at that price point. If you guys want it cheap, buy the original GameCube versions.

I wonder if old saves will work? If be great if they did. I got stuck in the first two Primes due to a control scheme that frankly, I just couldn't cope with when it got too hectic.

I'm sure they won't, these are Wii titles, not GameCube titles.
