sega cd model 2 dont know if it is the fuse or what...noob

just got this thing from my girlfriend....pretty sure it means we are destined to be togethersanyway posting the pics of it...it wont power up i dont think its the fuse probably wrong tho. if i need better pics tell me. its a us model sorry if that is troubling. this place seems pretty awesome tho! first time post

If it is a model 2 Sega CD and it won't power up, it is most likely the fuse. Those are notorious for having fuse problems.

It's almost always the fuse.

If you're really brave and you've got a REALLY GOOD surge strip, you can just solder a piece of wire between the two contacts of the fuse and see if it works then -- if it powers on, just TAKE OFF THE WIRE then replace the fuse.

This is a terrible idea if you have any kind of power surge at all, though. Be very careful -- this is only a way to TEST if it's the fuse, not a permanent fix.

Also, if you kill your SegaCD, um... not my fault. This is simply how I test them, but it really is also a terrible suggestion.

I performed the fuse bypass, and I had almost no soldering skills. I just took a small wire and soldered it onto each end of the fuse, which was on the bottom side of the board. In some of the Model 2's, the fuse is on top, I think.

It was a great feeling when it I hit power and heard the music. Although, I think the Model 1 music was better.

Okay, fantastic-- it is just a dead fuse. Now, PLEASE remove your wire from it, buy a new fuse, and replace it. I highly recommend never EVER using this method of testing as a "fix,' because it ISN'T. If some surge that would normally "blow" the fuse were to come along while the wire is connected instead of a fuse, it will likely fry your SegaCD.

So get a fuse.
