Default Desperate plea for advice. (sega purchase)

Im in a bit of a situation here in which I am trying to choose between a Sega Nomad and a JVC X'eye. I can only buy one, not both. I really cant choose and I would like some insight from the people on the boards.

Do you want to play Sega CD games at all? That isn't an option with the Nomad.

By the same token, do you want to play Genesis games portably, legitimately? Not an option with the X'Eye, unless you have a portable generator

Personally, I'd go for the Nomad, but a lot of people don't like it a whole lot, for whatever reason.

The situation also includes the fact that I already have 5 Genesis systems and 1 Sega CD system. The problem is, hooking up the Sega CD is a big pain in the butt due to the multiple power bricks. (also it looks pretty hideous with the genesis and its addons). I have heard that I might as well use a Genesis instead of a Nomad considering I wouldnt be playing the Nomad out and about due to its power usage issues.

I also have a modded PSP with a Genesis emulator. It looks as though im anwsering my own plea here. Anyone have experience with the Wondermega/Xeye?

If you do not currently own a Sega CD system, the X'eye for sure. Its not bulky like the model 1/2 combo setup up.

If you already have a a Sega CD system, the Nomad might be a a fun portable option for you, but as we know it has a poor battery life.

I wonder how some of the newer Hybrid NiMH batteries would work with the Nomad, dont they have a 500+ recharge capability and last around a year?

EDIT: Why get the JVC, sell your other Sega CD/Genesis Setup on ebay or a forum and buy the Nomad, you probably already considered that though.

I do not like to sell anything unless I have a massive surplus of that item. I have had a couple sale situations in which I regretted them alot. Im starting to lean towards the XEye due to the fact that there is that new Genesis handheld that Hyperkin is going to release sometime in the next year (hopefully).

I thought I remembered hearing the X'eye has s-video and stereo audio jacks.

Since the Nomad and X'eye are the last genesis-ish machines I need, I'd go for the X'eye for that s-video that nothing else has.

Get rid of two of those Genesis systems and you'll have room for it.

I don't know how many Genesis systems I have; I can think of six or seven for sure, and that's not counting the Nomads. I have a couple of many models, which might come in handy down the road if one dies.

I dont have ALL of my Genesis systems hooked up at once. That would be pretty moronic unless I had one of those awesome power splitter doodads. Actually it would be plain moronic in ANY situation. lol.

I have both but I picked my Nomad up from Goodwill for $6 so that helped. You should go with the X-Eye imo. It can play both carts and cds. Plus, it also plays a fair amount of Japanese import games(cart only) with no amount of modding or convertors needed. I like my Nomad but theres been too many occasions where the games would just randomly freeze up. Anyway, if I could only have one it would definitely be my X-Eye.

The JVC X'Eye does not have S-Video, but as with most systems it can be added. However most of the JVC X'Eye systems out there have standard composite jacks (Ye/Wh/Re).

The key to the JVC X'Eye is having the right power supply, 9.5v @ at least 1.5A.

I'd say go with the JVC X'Eye, I personally love mine and on the plus side it's a pretty easily serviceable system. My adventures with the X'Eye can be found here, here and here.

Thanks to you and everyone else for the advice. I have bought the Xeye. I will not be modding it though because of a former adventure in modding. I tried to do my first and only mod to a model 1 Genesis (Region mod. hrtz mod and RCA jack mod) and it turned out disasteriffically. The system doesnt even turn on now. I did it to the letter too. I have also had lots of soldering experience and spent over 50 bucks on new equipment and wires and such just for that. Sad.

Anyone have any idea on the sales figures of the Xeye/Wondermega system?

I've heard 10,000 units produced a few times over the years in the case of the JVC X'Eye.

If true, that would be one of the lowest game console sales in history... Interesting...

I am worried about the power adaptor. I hope the system comes with the right one.

If you don't get the right power supply go to segaparts.com and buy the Sega CDX plug, they were available a few months ago, probably still are. They are identical to the X-Eye power supply.

Good job on the X'Eye purchase! I've got one and love it pieces! A solid machine (and cool looking IMO)!

Definately good choice on the X'eye..the Sega CD capabilities are nice. And there is nothing like playing the classics on a regular TV..as opposed to the small Nomad screen XD
