Default A free retro game I made in the vein of Mario Bros.

    Hey retro guys!

I just released a game I've been working on. It's a free platformer in the vein of Super Mario Bros. You can check out a video of it here.

The link to download it is there. Try it out, I think any fan of the platformer wll like it!

That's cool. It's nice to see people having fun making games.

I need to get my ass in gear and start tinkering with making my own little games.
I downloaded the XNA, but I don't own visual studio, so I'm stuck with c#, which I know nothing about.

Looks pretty neat. Going to play around with it a little later tonight.

Apologies if this derails the thread, but last fall I picked up a C# book that I liked a lot. It's not at all conventional though, so you might want to check it out before buying it just on my word.

    Head First C#

I stalled in Chapter 4, but that's my own fault.

I just watched the video and it looks very interesting. I like the idea of the Hat Power-ups. I dont have a PC I can DL a game to right now so I will have to wait.

    Two questions:
How many different hats are there?
How long did it take to make the entire game?

Can you add your own music to the levels?

Same here. I have several projects I'm been hoping to get to.

By the way. If you want Visual Studio for free try Visual C++ Express...

I havn't used it myself but it seems to be a pretty full package. I believe the license just says you can't create commercial software.

May be a little off topic but I have been interested for years in writing simple 2d games just for fun. What would you guys recommend in getting started and what language is the best and most useful to learn. Again, sorry to go off topic but I figured I would ask.

    Thanks

Good job. The idea of making the levels out of bitmap images that way is really interesting.

There's two kinds besides the one you start with. The next hat after the big one allows you to shoot projectiles.
