    Question TG-CD question/problem

EDIT/UPDATE: "PC" is what the unit normally says during proper operation.

    ORIGINAL POST:
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what a Turbo Grafx CD (and/or PCE CD) normally says on the cd-rom display when you press the run button to initially start a cd game.

I have a few decks here that just sit there and do nothing when I press the run button. They display "PC" on the cd-rom deck and on screen it just has the message about reading the disc/trying to load. They never give any error message nor make any noises or other signs of problems.

I'm assuming it might be something with the laser as similar situations on the Turbo Duo usually are such. But I'm just not familiar with TGCDs to know what they should be saying/displaying.

The TG16 decks, power supplies, av cables, controllers, and docking stations appear to be functioning properly.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

check out that website for great information on TG-16.

i had the same problem, sounds like your unit needs cleaning.

    try this...

turn your cd system on, and put your finger on top of the laser.. if you see a red beam bouncing off, your good.. and your gears are probably just stuck like mine were.

That "PC" your seeing is a good sign. open that sucker up, and clean the crap out of it.. lube the gears up with some elecrtrical grease... or if not use a small amount of rubbing alcohol. try that and let me know.

    Thanks for the response Retro!

I'm unfortunately not getting a red light from the laser on any of the units I'm testing.

I checked the gears and I don't see any broken teeth or anything. So my current coarse of action is to get try cleaning/greasing as you mentioned and also replacing the caps. I know Duos and other NEC systems have cap problems so I wouldn't be surprised of some of them are dead in these units.
